Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL), the most common form of blood cancer. The genetic and clinical heterogeneity of DLBCL poses a major barrier to diagnosis and treatment. Hence, we aim to identify potential biomarkers for DLBCL. ⋯ Finally, results of DNA methylation analysis indicated that hypomethylation in KIF23's promoter region might be the result of its higher expression in DLBCL. The findings of this study suggested that KIF23 is a potential biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of DLBCL. However, further studies were needed to validate these findings.

Malnutrition is an important condition in patients diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). There is a need for practical and objective nutritional assessment methods in patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit with the diagnosis of COPD. In this study, it was aimed to determine the parameters that can practically evaluate the nutritional status of these patients. ⋯ In addition, NLR, PLR, LMR, basophil and lymphocyte values, which can be calculated using complete blood count parameters, may also be useful in the evaluation of nutritional status in these patients. In our study, the cut-off values determined for NLR, PLR, LMR, basophil and lymphocyte were 7.97, 291.10 and 2.606, 0.035 and 1.18, respectively. We think that the results we have obtained can provide preliminary information for future research.

This study aimed to report on the use, predictors and outcomes of guideline-based medical therapy (GBMT) in patients with acute heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction of <40% (HFrEF), from seven countries in the Arabian Gulf. Patients with acute HFrEF (N = 2680), aged 18 years or older, and hospitalized February-November 2012 were recruited and data were collected post discharge at 3 months (n = 2477) and 1 year (n = 2418). The use and doses of GBMT were evaluated as per European, American and Canadian HF guidelines. ⋯ Patients taking triple GBMT showed significantly reduced all-cause mortality both at 3-months (P = .048), and at 12-months (P = .003), compared to patients taking no GBMT. Triple GBMT prescribing and dosing in patients with HFrEF were suboptimal in the Arabian Gulf. Further studies are required to investigate GBMT utilization and dosing in the outpatient setting.

Mantle cell lymphoma presenting with severe upper gastrointestinal bleeding: A case report.
Although it usually involves extranodal sites such as the gastrointestinal tract in more than 80% of cases, mantle cell lymphoma is considered a rare cause of gastrointestinal bleeding, especially severe and life-threatening bleeding. ⋯ Mantle cell lymphoma should be kept in mind when assessing massive upper GI bleeding, as an unusual cause of bleeding gastric ulcer, given that bleeding is an uncommon presenting feature of GI lymphoma.
