In obese severe asthmatics, the degree of type 2 inflammation may vary according to their atopic status and past smoking history. In this study, we aimed to analyze the clinical and physiopathological features of obese and nonobese severe asthmatics treated with omalizumab or mepolizumab treatment. In addition we aimed to compare the clinical, spirometric outcomes and total peripheral eosinophilic count (TEC) changes after treatment with these 2 biologic agents in obese and nonobese groups. ⋯ The improvement in FEV1 in obese group following biologic 2 agents was very similar but in nonobese group, mepolizumab was found to be superior (510 mL vs. 295 mL; p: 0.034). In our real-life study, nonobese severe asthmatics with ≥10 p/y smoking history and those that were nonatopic had higher TEC. Compared to omalizumab, mepolizumab was superior at reducing TEC in all asthmatics and in improving FEV1 in nonobese group.

Inflammatory response was involved in the progression of cerebral hemorrhage. We sought to explore the associations of easily obtained inflammatory indicators including blood cell counts and the ratios of different blood cells counts with pneumonia and severe pneumonia in cerebral hemorrhage patients. We carried 1 retrospective study including 200 patients with cerebral hemorrhage and surgeries. ⋯ SIRI was possibly a superior predictor for severe pneumonia in cerebral hemorrhage patients compared with other inflammatory indicators. On the one hand, we intend to validate the cutoff value of SIRI for predicting severe pneumonia in larger samples and multicenter studies. On the other hand, we also intend to use this index to guide the choice of antibacterial drugs in order to better benefit patients.

To observe the serum levels of 25 hydroxyvitamin D [25 (OH) D] in healthy school-age children and children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and to analyze the effects of serum 25 (OH) D on the symptoms of attention deficit and hyperactivity in school-age children with ADHD. ⋯ Serum 25(OH)D levels lower than normal are more common in school-age children, and levels lower than normal are not the key pathogenic factor of ADHD in school-age children, but serum 25(OH)D levels lower than normal may be the upregulation factor of attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder expression in some school-age children with ADHD. The lower level of serum 25(OH)D may be closely related to the severity of ADHD symptoms in some children.

Treatment of radial neck fractures (RNFs) in children, particularly those with severe displacement or angulation, remains controversial, largely due to the challenge of achieving optimal reduction without resorting to open reduction. This study aimed to assess the outcomes of ultrasonography (US)-guided percutaneous leverage reduction coupled with US-guided fixation using either elastic stable intramedullary nail (ESIN) or Kirschner wire (KW) for severely displaced Judet type III and IV RNFs in children. We hypothesized that both strategies would be effective and aimed to identify the superior approach. ⋯ Our study suggests that US-guided percutaneous leverage reduction, combined with either ESIN or KW fixation, is an effective treatment for severely displaced radial neck fractures in children. Both treatment modalities resulted in notably few intraoperative radiographic exposures and yielded favorable clinical and radiological outcomes. The integration of US-guided leverage reduction and KW fixation is both cost-effective and safe.

Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) is an uncommon but life-threatening disease. The disease often occurs in immunocompromised patients or critically ill patients. Here, we reported that IPA occurred in a non-immunocompromised host. ⋯ The immunocompetent adults can develop invasive pulmonary aspergillosis if they are exposed to high-risk environments. IPA in non-immunocompromised host should arouse the vigilance of clinicians.
