Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is closely related to the occurrence and development of primary liver cancer (PLC). The early diagnosis of PLC is difficult. The study explored the clinical application value of the HBV gene basal core promoter (BCP) region 1762/1764 combined with gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) and its isozyme II (GGTII) in PLC. ⋯ HBV gene BCP 1762/1764 mutation, GGT, and GGTII may be related to PLC occurrence. The HBV gene BCP region 1762/1764 combined with GGT has certain clinical diagnostic values for PLC and early PLC. However, GGTII is not a good indicator of early PLC and is more relevant to advanced PLC.

Clinical outcomes of colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) exhibit heterogeneity among different patients, highlighting the need for novel prognostic biomarkers. Kinesin superfamily members have been shown to play a crucial role in tumors and can predict cancer diagnosis and prognosis. ⋯ Additionally, differentially expressed genes in COAD were enriched in immune-related pathways, and patients with higher KIFC2 expression showed fewer activated CD4 + T cells. These findings suggest KIFC2 as a potential prognostic biomarker for COAD, warranting further validation in clinical studies.

The inflammatory disease ulcerative colitis (UC) is multifaceted, immune-mediated, chronic, and relapsing, which is considered to be mainly driven by dysregulated mucosal immune response. The remission of the inflammatory response is a marker of mucosal healing, relating to the low risk of hospitalizations, colorectal cancer, and colectomy. In spite of this, it is still unclear what the key immunological mechanism is which contributes to UC. ⋯ SPI1 showed the strongest likelihood to be the regulator. S100A9 was identified as the real immune-related hub gene for inflamed UC. Both diagnosis and remission may be aided by its high expression in the inflamed UC.

ST-segment elevation on electrocardiogram (ECG) is an alarming sign. Although acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is the most common cause of ST-segment elevation, many non-ischemic conditions may produce pseudo-ST segment elevation. Spiked Helmet (SH) sign is one of the pseudo-ST segment elevations that is associated with critical illness and high risk of death. SH sign was characterized by an upward shift starting before the onset of the QRS complex; however, we found some patients presented with a peculiar characteristic on ECG with an upward convex ST-segment elevation after the QRS wave but without elevation before the QRS wave, therefore called Semi-SH sign. Also, this electrocardiographic feature exists in patients with critical disease and is related to poor prognosis. The purpose of this case series is to describe the electrocardiographic Semi-SH sign and enhance the awareness of such electrocardiographic manifestation for clinicians. ⋯ Like SH sign, electrocardiographic Semi-SH sign is a life-threatening or deadly ECG sign, and therefore early recognition and aggressive treatment are important.

This study aimed to examine the readability, reliability, quality, and content of patient education materials (PEM) on the Internet about "Helicobacter pylori (H pylori)." A search was conducted on March 14, 2023, using the keyword "H pylori" in the Google search engine. The readability of PEMs was assessed using the Flesch reading ease score, FKGL, simple measure of gobbledygook, and gunning fog readability formulas. The reliability and quality of the websites were determined using the Journal of American Medical Association score, health on the net foundation code of conduct, global quality score, and DISCERN score. ⋯ Compared to the sixth grade level recommended by the American Medical Association and National Institutes of Health, the readability of H pylori-related internet-based PEMs is quite high. On the other hand, the reliability and quality of the PEMs were determined as moderate to poor. PEMs for issues threatening public health should be prepared with attention to recommendations on readability.
