To compare the visual outcomes of early and late vitrectomy for breakthrough vitreous hemorrhage (VH) associated with exudative age-related macular degeneration (exudative AMD) and polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV). A retrospective chart review was performed with data of all patients diagnosed with exudative AMD and PCV-related breakthrough VH who underwent early or late vitrectomy (within or after 3 months, respectively). Demographic data and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at baseline, and 1, 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively were recorded and analyzed. ⋯ Conversely, the LogMAR BCVA improvement at 1 year in the early vitrectomy group demonstrated statistically significant differences from the late vitrectomy group (P = .025) in the exudative AMD subgroup. Both, early and late vitrectomy can improve visual acuity in patients with breakthrough VH secondary to exudative AMD and PCV. However, early vitrectomy is more beneficial for breakthrough VH-associated exudative AMD.

To investigate sex differences in the titles and lifestyles of Japanese ophthalmologists, we evaluated work places and private lives. Retrospective cross-sectional study. The study included 1721 members (1344 males and 377 females) of the Japanese Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. ⋯ There were no significant differences in daily sleep duration. Both sexes were equally satisfied with their career choice of ophthalmology; however, fewer females recommended ophthalmology as a career for students and children compared to males. There are significant sex differences among ophthalmologists in Japan in terms of family responsibilities; this topic has received insufficient attention.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is one of the most prominent public health problems worldwide. The 5-year survival rate of people living with HIV undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) and the factors related to the survival rate have not been widely studied. This study calculated the 5-year survival rate of people living with HIV who were undergoing MHD and determined the risk factors that may affect the 5-year survival rate. ⋯ Infection was the leading cause of death, accounting for 55.37%. The Cox proportional hazards model revealed that antiretroviral therapy (ART) and the serum albumin level after dialysis were independent protective factors for patient survival. The log-rank test showed that there was a significant difference in survival time between the ART and non-ART groups.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common malignant tumor that severely endangers human health. Exosomes show great potential in tumor immunotherapy. Increasingly studies have shown that exosome-related genes are effective prognostic biomarkers. ⋯ Single-sample gene set enrichment analysis and ESTIMATE algorithms revealed that the risk model was related to immune cell infiltration. The value of the risk model in predicting immunotherapeutic outcomes was also confirmed. An exosome-related gene risk model was constructed to predict prognosis, evaluate microenvironment immune cell infiltration levels and bring a new perspective to CRC patient treatment.

The Flash'O project was designed to provide insights into the current use of prescription omega-3 and their perceived benefits by physicians in real-world clinical practice, in Russia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Gulf countries, and to determine the adherence of physicians to dyslipidemia management guidelines. The present study focuses on Flash'O's process and results in Middle East countries. A total of 338 physicians and specialists completed the online questionnaire. ⋯ Responding physicians thought that omega-3 supplementation could be more beneficial in all types of dyslipidemia, except high non- hight density lipoproteins, and for patients suffering from obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, acute coronary syndrome with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction and high cardiovascular diseases risk (score ≥ 5% and < 10%), but less beneficial in chronic kidney disease. Respondents recommended omega-3 to their patients mainly after statin treatment in patients with dyslipidemia and for the treatment of dyslipidemia. This survey confirmed that omega-3 fatty acids are at the heart of the cardiovascular medical strategy.
