Minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF) is not suitable for high-grade isthmic spondylolisthesis, whether MIS-TLIF can treat II° lumbar isthmic spondylolisthesis (IS) is still controversial. This retrospective cohort study compared the clinical efficacy of MIS-TLIF and open transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (OPEN-TLIF) in the treatment of II° lumbar IS. From January 2017 to January 2023, 101 patients with II° lumbar IS were diagnosed in our hospital and underwent surgical treatment, of which 53 received MIS-TLIF surgery and 48 received OPEN-TLIF surgery. ⋯ In the visual analog scale score of low back pain, the MIS-TLIF group was lower than the OPEN-TLIF group after operation and at the last follow-up. There were no significant differences in postoperative leg pain score, slippage rate, and fusion rate between the 2 groups. Compared with OPEN-TLIF, MIS-TLIF has the advantages of better low back pain relief, less trauma, less bleeding and faster recovery, and is worthy of clinical promotion.

An overdistended gallbladder is usually observed in cases of distal bile obstruction due to malignancy. The gallbladder may also become enlarged and distended during cystic duct or gallbladder neck obstruction due to gallstones. However, a grossly distended gallbladder ( > 14 cm in length) without any pathology is rare. We present the case of a 46-year-old female patient who suffered from acute right lower quadrant pain for 4 days. Initially, a liver cyst and a choledochal cyst were diagnosed by the local hospital. Then, the diagnosis of giant gallbladder (measuring approximately 20.0 cm × 7.0 cm and containing more than 30 gallbladder stones) was made by magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography at our hospital. Finally, we successfully performed a laparoscopic cholecystectomy and the patient had an uneventful recovery. ⋯ The patient was successfully treated using laparoscopic cholecystectomy. This rare case may contribute to the development of mechanisms for treating giant gallbladders.

Long-term outcomes and health-related quality of life in patients with autoimmune encephalitis: An observational study.
Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) subacutely causes severe and multiple symptoms; however, most patients achieve neurologically favorable outcomes. Despite the substantial recovery in motor function, persistent impairments in mental/social aspects lasting for several years have been recognized, and its potential effect on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) has been argued. To urgently evaluate the long-term effects of AE on patients' HRQOL, we investigated patient-oriented long-term outcomes and assessed the HRQOL of patients with AE. ⋯ Patients with sequelae were significantly less likely to return to previous work/school and had worse global/social quality of life than patients without sequelae. In conclusion, nearly half of patients with AE had social QOL under normal limits 5 years after onset. The difficulty in returning to work/school and a worse HRQOL were notable in patients with sequelae.

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an upper genital tract infection caused by a variety of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms ascending from the cervix or vagina. Though PID is mainly a sexually transmitted disease; 15% are non-sexually transmitted.[1] In our study, we aim to assess gynecologists' understanding and awareness of PID; as it presents an important health issue affecting the Jordanian community and similar communities with the same cultural and religious backgrounds. A cross-sectional study was conducted using an online questionnaire that received responses from 172 gynecologists in Jordan. ⋯ In addition, we think there is a lack of certain standards on how to define PID and acknowledge its effect on the community as well as the disappointing level of knowledge about different aspects of PID gynecologists show, starting with its prevalence and ending with treatment policy. Clearer guidelines for the diagnosis, management, and prevention of PID should be adopted. These findings should be acknowledged by all doctors from neighboring countries as well as those within similar communities to Jordan.

Tetanus is a highly fatal infectious disease with an incubation period of 7 to 8 days. The aim of this study was to identify risk factors for death in tetanus patients, develop a nomogram model for predicting mortality risk. This retrospective study included tetanus patients who were admitted to the intensive care unit department between January 2013 and December 2022. ⋯ The C-index of the nomogram model was 0.942, with an area under the curve of the receiver operating characteristic curve at 0.942 (95%CI, 0.871-0.905). Ablett classification, white blood cell count, autonomic nervous dysfunctions were associated with the prognosis of patients with tetanus. The nomogram model developed based on risk factors has high accuracy.
