Inflammation is closely related to the changes of thyroid function in Hashimoto thyroiditis patients. Certain nutrients or dietary habits can alter the levels of autoantibodies in Hashimoto thyroiditis. However, it remains unclear whether dietary inflammation affects thyroid function in patients with Hashimoto thyroiditis. ⋯ Hashimoto thyroiditis patients with more pro-inflammatory diet habits had higher levels of TSH and TT4. In order to prevent hypothyroidism more effectively in patients with Hashimoto thyroiditis, it is essential to control dietary inflammation. However, it is still necessary to design a better prospective cohort study to verify the causal relationship.

Evidence supporting a starting dose of 2 g/day of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) in combination with tacrolimus (TAC) for renal transplantation (RT) is still limited, but maintaining a dose of <2 g could result in worse clinical outcomes in terms of acute rejection (AR). This study aimed to determine the association between AR and infectious and noninfectious complications after RT with a dose of 1.5 g vs 2 g of MMF. A prospective cohort study was performed with a 12-month follow-up of recipients of RT from living donors with low (1.5 g/day) or standard (2 g/day) doses of MMF. ⋯ At the end of the follow-up, the incidence of infectious diseases was 52% versus 50% (P = .71) and AR was 5% versus 5% (P = .86), respectively. The survival rate free of gastrointestinal (GI) complications requiring medical attention was higher in the low-dose group than in the standard-dose dose (88% vs 45%, respectively; P < .001). The use of 1.5 g/day of MMF confers a reduction in GI complications without an increase in infectious diseases or the risk of AR.

Long-term survival after surgical resection for bone metastasis from pancreatic cancer: A case report.
Pancreatic cancer (PC) is highly malignant and metastatic; however, bone metastases are rare. Although the effectiveness of conversion surgery for distant metastases of PC has been reported in a few cases, there are no reports on surgical resection for bone metastases. Here, we report a case of long-term survival after resection of bone metastasis from PC. ⋯ Surgical resection may be favorable in patients with bone metastasis of PC that is well-controlled with chemotherapy.

Immunocompromised patients who developed varicella-zoster virus (VZV)-associated disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) previously included recipients of bone marrow, hematopoietic stem cell, or organ transplantations, patients with primary nephropathy receiving corticosteroid therapy, cancer patients receiving chemotherapy, and patients with human immune deficiency virus infection. The case reported here is novel because, to our knowledge, there has been no report of VZV-associated DIC after the onset of Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP). ⋯ This case report, for the first time, adds HSP treated with corticosteroids to the spectrum of clinical conditions that progressed to life-threatening secondary varicella-associated DIC. Early identification of varicella infection and DIC, combined with timely antiviral, immunoglobulin transfusion, plasma exchange, and other combined therapies are essential for saving patients' lives.

Application of platelet-rich-plasma in the postoperative treatment of perianal abscess pseudohealing: A case report.
Perianal abscess is a common disease of the anus and intestine. Surgery is an important treatment option for perianal abscess. However, some patients have a long healing time, poor healing effect after surgery, or even pseudo-healing. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is rich in platelets that can release a large number of factors when activated and promote wound healing. Moreover, there are few reports on the use of PRP for wounds that are difficult to heal after perianal abscess surgery. ⋯ PRP is a novel treatment option for pseudo-healing.
