Efficacy of intravenous acetaminophen on postoperative shivering: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Postoperative shivering (POS) is a common and vital complication after anesthesia, which may result in serious consequences and uncomfortable experiences. Acetaminophen has been used to treat fever and mild to moderate pain. However, there is not enough evidence to prove its advantage for POS. This meta-analysis aimed to explore the prophylactic use of acetaminophen as a valid agent for POS. ⋯ Our present meta-analysis demonstrates that the intravenous prophylactic infusion of acetaminophen may prevent POS, and the results may provide new evidence to expand the clinical value of acetaminophen in addition to its routine usage.

Significance of family history of cholelithiasis in a Pakistani population: A single center, descriptive cross-sectional study.
Linkage studies have indicated a potential genetic predisposition to cholelithiasis. This study aims to determine the frequency of positive family history of gallstone disease in patients presenting with gallstones in a Pakistani population. A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted at the surgical department of the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital from June 30, 2023 to August 30, 2023. ⋯ The attributable risk of genetics from our study was 37.2%. Additionally, there was no significant association between positive family history and earlier onset of disease. A significant percentage of Pakistani population may have gallstone disease due to genetic factors.

Subclavian artery (SCA) injuries, though rare, carry significant morbidity and mortality risks due to significant blood loss causing hypovolemic shock. Early diagnosis and adequate treatment are crucial to minimize bleeding and associated morbidity. Recent advances in endovascular techniques offer faster and more accurate treatment options compared to traditional open surgical repair. This study demonstrates the efficacy of endovascular treatment in 2 cases of SCA injury and reviews its indications, limitations, and precautions. ⋯ This study demonstrates the effectiveness of endovascular techniques in rapidly diagnosing, bridging, and definitively treating SCA injuries, suggesting their use as a first-line therapy.

Injection, hematoma, abscess, systemic inflammatory response syndrome, stairway to hell: Case report.
Intramuscular injections are routine outpatient procedure performed at healthcare institutions worldwide. In the current literature, there have been very few reports of gluteal superior artery injuries due to incorrect injection techniques. However, no one has ever reported a healthy middle-aged man with systemic inflammatory response syndrome with possible injection-related bleeding from the gluteus superior artery, followed by a hematoma, and then a deep abscess after 3 weeks of not receiving treatment. ⋯ The dorso-gluteal technique has potential risks, including possible injury to the sciatic nerve and superior gluteal artery and irritation of the subcutaneous adipose tissue. This article aims to highlight the potential risks of a particular technique and advocate the use of the ventrogluteal technique instead of the traditional dorso-gluteal technique.

Endoscopic injection of lauromacrogol foam sclerotherapy for rectal cavernous hemangioma: A case report.
Rectal cavernous hemangioma is a rare, benign vascular disease that seldom causes lower gastrointestinal bleeding, characterized by a high rate of misdiagnosis and missed diagnoses. Surgical treatment is considered to be relatively effective; however, it is accompanied by certain employed in the treatment of superficial hemangioma, boasting the advantages of minimally invasive surgery, including safety, effectiveness, reduced trauma, and rapid recovery. However, there is a lack of literature regarding the application of foam sclerosing agents for gastrointestinal hemangiomas. ⋯ Our findings indicate that endoscopic injection of a lauromacrogol foam sclerosing agent is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive treatment option for gastrointestinal cavernous hemangiomas.
