Lung cancer (LC) remains the leading cause of cancer-related death. We identified potential therapeutic targets and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compounds for LC treatment. GSE43346 and GSE18842 were derived from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and used to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). ⋯ Paclitaxel, quercetin, and rotenone have been identified as active substances in TCM. CDC20, CCNB2, and TOP2A are novel hub genes associated with LC. Paclitaxel, quercetin, and rotenone can be used as therapeutic agents in TCM.

Ferroptosis has been recognized as a critical factor in the development of atrial fibrillation (AF), but its precise mechanisms remain unclear. We downloaded the GSE115574 dataset from the gene expression omnibus database to analyze the expression levels of ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs) and identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and support vector machine-recursive feature elimination (SVM-RFE) machine learning techniques were employed to identify key genes associated with AF. ⋯ This study underscores the involvement of FRGs in AF through machine learning and validation approaches. The observed immune cell infiltration suggests a potential link between immune response and AF. The predicted ceRNA network offers new insights into gene regulation, presenting potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for AF.

Patient outcomes of osteosarcoma vary because of tumor heterogeneity and treatment strategies. This study aimed to compare the performance of multiple machine learning (ML) models with the traditional Cox proportional hazards (CoxPH) model in predicting prognosis and explored the potential of ML models in clinical decision-making. From 2000 to 2018, 1243 patients with osteosarcoma were collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. ⋯ There are also significant differences in survival outcomes between patients who align with the treatment option recommended by the DeepSurv model and those who do not (hazard ratio, 1.88; P < .05). The DeepSurv model is available in an approachable web app format at https://survivalofosteosarcoma.streamlit.app/. We developed ML models capable of accurately predicting the survival of osteosarcoma, which can provide useful information for decision-making regarding the appropriate treatment.

Neuroendocrine carcinoma originating from extrahepatic bile duct is very rare, and only a few cases have been reported. Because of its scarcity of incidence, not much is known about the disease but for its aggressiveness and poor prognosis. ⋯ Given the rarity of LCNEC, it is essential to continue collecting and reporting additional case studies to build a more comprehensive understanding of the disease. Although the prognosis for LCNEC is generally poor, the use of a multidisciplinary approach and further research will be critical in developing more effective treatment strategies in the future.

Accumulating evidence indicates that individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at an increased risk of experiencing depressive disorders, which may accelerate its progression. However, the relationship between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and depression in CKD individuals remains unclear. Therefore, this cross-sectional study aimed to assess whether such a relationship exists. ⋯ Above this threshold, the adjusted odds ratio (95% confidence interval) was 1.10 (range, 0.93-1.31). This relationship was significant among the obese subgroups. The study results highlight the complex relationship between the TyG index and depression among American adults with CKD.
