Comparative Study
Comparative analysis of surgical prognostic between HIC and NHIC patients after cystoscopy with hydrodistention.
This study aims to clarify the pathogenic mechanism of interstitial cystitis (IC), which has led to uncertainty in its diagnosis and treatment. We examined data from 18 interstitial cystitis with Hunner lesions (HIC) and 18 interstitial cystitis without Hunner lesions (NHIC) patients, including their clinical information, urodynamic test results, and maximum bladder capacity. A 1-year follow-up tracked disease progression. ⋯ Early analgesic interventions effectively alleviated discomfort in HIC patients. The combination of cystoscopic hydrodistention and water dilatation was highly effective in relieving pain symptoms in HIC patients but increased the risk of recurrence, necessitating recurrent bladder infusion and timely therapeutic adjustments. In contradiction to prior paradigms, the surgical intervention of cystoscopic water hydrodistention also yielded favorable outcomes among NHIC patients.

Observational Study
An evaluation of serum blood parameters and amyloid-A levels in women with hyperemesis gravidarum; A prospective observational study.
This study aimed to investigate whether serum amyloid A (AA) level can be used as a biomarker in women with hyperemesis gravidarum (HEG). This prospective observational study was conducted at the Antalya Training and Research Hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic, Türkiye, between July and December 2023. Forty women diagnosed with HEG and 40 healthy women were included. ⋯ The positive predictive value of serum AA was 81.1% and the negative predictive value was 80.4%. The study results showed that serum AA can be used as a diagnostic biomarker in HEG. Prospective studies involving more participants are now required to confirm our results.

Hungry bone syndrome (HBS) is a forgotten and underdiagnosed cause. Postoperative HBS refers to patients with high bone turnover before surgery, but after surgery, the inhibition of osteoclast resorption by intact parathyroid hormone suddenly decreases, resulting in a sudden increase in the amount of calcium resorbed by the bone, and a rapid, severe and persistent hypocalcemia, which may be accompanied by hypophosphatemia and hypomagnesemia. We present a case with information about HBS and related complications after parathyroidectomy (PTX). ⋯ Using the case of a patient with primary hyperparathyroidism with HBS lasting 9 days after PTX for diagnosis and management, we aimed to summarize possible predictors and perioperative management strategies to reduce the incidence, severity, and duration of postoperative HBS.

Primary ovarian carcinoid tumors are rare neoplasms, first reported in 1939, with approximately 30 cases reported thus far. It is categorized into insular, trabecular, strumal, and mucinous types. Mucinous forms are extremely rare, comprising < 2% of all primary ovarian carcinoid tumors. ⋯ Approximately 40% of primary ovarian carcinoid tumors with insular morphology present in pure form, and mucinous forms are extremely rare. At present, the main diagnostic methods in cases of primary ovarian mucinous carcinoid tumor include macroscopic examination, histopathology and imaging examination. The main treatment modalities for primary ovarian mucinous carcinoid tumor are surgery. postoperative chemotherapy remains controversial.

Impact of dry eye disease on psychological symptoms among Chinese doctoral students studying abroad.
This study aimed to evaluate the impact of dry eye disease (DED) on depression, anxiety, and stress among Chinese doctoral students studying abroad. This is a cross-sectional study. This study enrolled 185 Chinese doctoral students pursuing education in the Philippines. ⋯ Univariate analysis of variances indicated that DED severity had a significant impact on anxiety F(3, 125) = 6.06, P = .001 and stress F(3, 125) = 3.00, P = .033. A higher influence of DED was related to stress and anxiety. Anxiety and stress levels increase with the severity of DED.
