Texture analysis based on CT for predicting the differentiation of esophageal squamous cancer: An observational study.
To explore the feasibility and application value of texture analysis based on computed tomography (CT) for predicting the differentiation of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Patients diagnosed with ESCC who underwent chest contrast-enhanced CT before treatment were selected. Based on the pathological results, the patients were stratified into poorly differentiated and moderately well-differentiated groups. ⋯ The best critical values for SD, inhomogeneity, and entropy were 17.538, 0.017, and 3.917, respectively. The areas under the ROC curve were 0.793, 0.792, and 0.729, respectively, with the SD and inhomogeneity being the best. The application of texture analysis on venous phase CT images holds promise as a method for forecasting the degree of differentiation in esophageal cancers, which could significantly contribute to the preoperative noninvasive evaluation of tumor differentiation.

MORC family CW-type zinc finger 2 (MORC2) is a newly identified chromatin remodeling protein, and has been proposed as a prognostic biomarker associated with survival in some types of human cancer, but the role of MORC2 in cervical cancer remains unknown. Here, we investigated the role of MORC2 expression in predicting the survival outcomes of locally advanced cervical cancer patients treated with cisplatin-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). In this retrospectively study, we detected MORC2 immunohistochemical expression on 55 biopsies from patients who underwent CCRT. ⋯ MORC2 expression was positively associated with pelvic node metastasis and locoregional failure. Higher MORC2 expression was a significant indicator of worse PFS. Our results suggest that MORC2 expression may be a prognostic indicator in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer undergoing CCRT.

Pediatric diseases possess unique characteristics, requiring pediatricians to have strong critical thinking skills and sound ethical decision-making abilities. This study aims to investigate and analyze the critical thinking dispositions of pediatric medical students and their impact on ethical decision-making levels, and to propose suggestions for improving teaching methods. A cross-sectional study design was adopted, using the Chinese version of the California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (CCTDI-CV) and an ethical decision-making questionnaire. ⋯ Critical thinking plays a crucial role in medical ethical decision-making, with family background and high school performance being important influencing factors. Educators should focus more on developing multidimensional critical thinking skills to enhance students' ethical decision-making abilities, thereby improving overall healthcare service quality. The study results also provide new perspectives for international pediatric medical educators.

Increasing literature has affirmed that changes in the gut microbiome (GM) composition were linked to distinct brain injury (BI) through the gut-brain axis, but it is uncertain if such links reflect causality. Further, the immune cell changes mediating the impact of GM on BI are not completely understood. We made use of the summary statistics of 211 GM (MiBioGen consortium), 731 immune cells, and 2 different BIs (FinnGen consortium), namely traumatic BI (TBI) and focal BI (FBI), from the extensive genome-wide association studies to date. ⋯ Our comprehensive MR analysis first provides insight into potential causal links between several specific GM taxa with FBI/TBI. Additionally, CD123 on plasmacytoid DC in conjunction with CCR2 on myeloid DC may function in gut microbiota-host crosstalk in FBI and TBI, correspondingly. Further studies are critical to unravel the underlying mechanisms of the links between GM and BI.

To investigate the effect of dilating small blood vessels using a balloon dilation (BD) technique on the occurrence of radio-cephalic autogenous arteriovenous fistulas in terms of patency, blood flow, and vein diameter (VD). ⋯ BD has obvious advantages over hydrostatic dilation for chronic renal failure patients with small veins in establishing arteriovenous fistula in terms of patency and blood flow.
