The purpose of this research was to assess the association between sleep disorders and coronary heart disease (CHD) using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. This cross-sectional study included 9886 eligible participants with valid data on sleep disorders and CHD from the NHANES from 2011 to 2014. The complex NHANES sampling led to use of sample weights in analyses. ⋯ The correlation between sleep disorders and CHD varies by age and gender. Sleep disorders have some predictive value for CHD (0.5 < area under curve ≤ 0.7). Sleep disorders were associated with and predictive of CHD risk, warranting consideration in clinical assessments.

Risk factors and severity of melasma in patients attending dermatology outpatient department of a tertiary care hospital: A cross-sectional study.
Melasma is a chronic acquired dysfunction of melanogenesis characterized by dark brown irregular macules on skin. Genetic predisposition, pregnancy, sun exposure, and hormonal therapy are common risk factors. Prevalence of melasma is variable, ranging from 5% to 46%. ⋯ Moreover, the use of digital screens was not associated with an increase in melasma severity. Most of the cases had mild melasma. Severity was significantly associated with age, parity, pattern, practice of cosmetic use, and presence of dermatological comorbidities.

Adequate serum 25-hydroxy-vitamin D levels are correlated with low anti-PF4 levels in mild COVID-19 Patients: An observational study.
The worldwide spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has resulted in an unparalleled health emergency of global proportions. Around 31% of individuals with COVID-19 experience thrombosis associated with hypercoagulation. COVID-19 patients have shown an increase in platelet activation, but the mechanism has not been fully understood yet. ⋯ Serum 25(OH)D level had a significant negative correlation with anti-PF4 level in mild COVID-19 patients. Thus, it is highly recommended to ensure that serum 25(OH)D levels are maintained above 30 ng/mL. Remarkably, the P-selectin level was significantly higher in the moderate COVID-19 group compared to the severe group.

Analysis of contributing factors and nursing interventions for postoperative agitation following general anesthesia in thoracotomy patients.
To analyze the factors influencing agitation during emergence from general anesthesia in patients undergoing thoracotomy and to explore corresponding nursing interventions to optimize the postoperative recovery process. This study included 200 patients who underwent thoracotomy with general anesthesia at our hospital between January 12, 2022, and June 1, 2023. After surgery, all patients were closely monitored in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). ⋯ Based on these findings, we developed targeted nursing strategies to reduce the incidence of agitation and promote smooth recovery. Agitation during emergence from general anesthesia in patients undergoing thoracotomy is closely related to factors such as age and surgery duration. Developing personalized nursing plans based on these factors can enhance postoperative monitoring and care, thereby reducing agitation and improving recovery quality.

The impact of postoperative nasal oxygen therapy on early-stage corneal edema in cataract patients with dynamic Scheimpflug analyze: A retrospective study.
This study aimed to assess the impact of 6 hours of postoperative nasal oxygen therapy on early-stage corneal edema in patients with nuclear cataracts of grades 3 to 4. A retrospective study involved 49 patients (49 eyes) with grades 3 to 4 nuclear cataracts undergoing phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation from September 2021 to September 2022. The oxygen group (27 cases) received postoperative nasal oxygen therapy for 6 hours, while the control group (22 cases) received no additional treatment. ⋯ Statistically significant differences were found in overall COD, COD within specific depth and thickness ranges, and COD within the anterior layer (120 μm thickness) at 24 hours postoperatively (all P < .05). No significant difference was observed in COD values within the central and posterior layers (60 μm thickness) between the 2 groups (all P > .05). Postoperative nasal oxygen therapy for 6 hours immediately after surgery could alleviate the severity of early-stage corneal edema in patients with nuclear cataracts of grades 3 to 4.
