Correlation between triglyceride glucose index and coronary plaque: An observational study.
The association between the triglyceride-glucose (Tyg) index and coronary plaque in patients with coronary heart disease remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between Tyg index and coronary plaque under different levels of blood glucose metabolism. This retrospective study included patients with coronary artery disease who underwent coronary angiography and OCT between January 1, 2023 and January 1, 2024, and ultimately collected 232 coronary plaques. ⋯ Receiver operating characteristic showed that the area under ROC curve (AUC) was 0.727 (95% CI 0.663-0.792; P < .001), the best cutoff value was 9.23, the sensitivity was 60%, and the specificity was 81%. In diabetic patients, there was a statistically significant correlation between Tyg index and coronary vulnerable plaque (OR: 3.273; 95% CI 1.240-8.636, P < .05). Triglyceride glucose index is a good predictor of coronary vulnerable plaque.

Case-control analysis of hip fractures with concurrent benzodiazepine and opioid use and surgery class at a single teaching institution.
In this study, we analyze the relationship between polypharmacy and surgical treatment in a population at a single teaching institution. The design of the study is a case-control analysis of hip fractures. The setting is at a single teaching institution located in Galveston, Texas, USA. ⋯ In our patient population, opioid and/or benzodiazepine prescriptions were not significantly linked to hip fracture surgery, but documented alcohol use was found to be significant in both groups. We noted a higher prevalence of opioid and benzodiazepine prescriptions than was previously reported. As patients age, we should be cautious about the effects of polypharmacy and alcohol use and their impacts on the elderly.

Post-craniopharyngioma surgery hypocalcemia due to denosumab use for osteoporosis: A case report.
Denosumab, a fully humanized IgG monoclonal antibody, is commonly employed in the management of different types of osteoporosis. Up to now, hypocalcemia linked with denosumab has been predominantly reported in dialysis patients suffering from chronic kidney disease. Interestingly, there have been no reports of hypocalcemia following craniopharyngioma surgery with the use of denosumab. ⋯ It underscores the necessity for clinicians to perform a thorough evaluation of the patient's overall health status, complete all requisite testing, pay particular attention to those in high-risk categories, and ensure serum calcium levels are monitored, along with conducting other essential tests, prior to and following each administration of denosumab.

Analysis of contributing factors and nursing interventions for postoperative agitation following general anesthesia in thoracotomy patients.
To analyze the factors influencing agitation during emergence from general anesthesia in patients undergoing thoracotomy and to explore corresponding nursing interventions to optimize the postoperative recovery process. This study included 200 patients who underwent thoracotomy with general anesthesia at our hospital between January 12, 2022, and June 1, 2023. After surgery, all patients were closely monitored in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). ⋯ Based on these findings, we developed targeted nursing strategies to reduce the incidence of agitation and promote smooth recovery. Agitation during emergence from general anesthesia in patients undergoing thoracotomy is closely related to factors such as age and surgery duration. Developing personalized nursing plans based on these factors can enhance postoperative monitoring and care, thereby reducing agitation and improving recovery quality.

Surgical refinements and sensory and functional outcomes of using thinned sensate anterolateral thigh perforator flaps for foot and ankle reconstruction: A retrospective study.
To improve the use of sensate anterolateral thigh (ALT) flaps for foot and ankle reconstruction, we employed a thinned nerve-selective harvesting technique. The data of 31 patients in whom sensate ALT perforator flaps were transferred for reconstruction of soft-tissue defects in the foot and ankle were reviewed. Flaps were elevated with 2 refinements. ⋯ All patients achieved mobility in ordinary shoes with a mean functional score of 74.6. The thinned nerve-selective sensate ALT perforator flap can be a favorable option for foot and ankle reconstruction. This method also offers the possibility of preserving the nerve branch at the donor thigh.
