Nearly half of lung large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage and face a high early death risk. Our objective was to develop models for assessing early death risk in stage IV LCNEC patients. We used surveillance, epidemiology, and end results (SEER) databases to gather data on patients with stage IV LCNEC to construct models and conduct internal validation. ⋯ The calibration curve and Hosmer-Lemeshow test both demonstrated a high level of consistency for the constructed nomograms. Additionally, decision curve analysis further confirmed the substantial clinical utility of the nomograms. We developed a reliable nomogram to predict the early mortality risk in stage IV LCNEC patients that can be a helpful tool for health care professionals to identify high-risk patients and create personalized treatment plans.

During the coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, various movement disorders associated with COVID-19 infection have been reported. However, the incidence of dystonia specifically associated with COVID-19 infection has been particularly rare. ⋯ Task-specific dystonia affecting the facial muscles, particularly induced by specific actions such as chewing and nasal breathing, is rare and may represent an atypical post-infectious manifestation of COVID-19.

The causal relationship between triglycerides and myocardial infarction (MI) was investigated using Mendelian randomization (MR) studies. Triglycerides were the exposure factor, and MI served as the outcome variable. Inverse variance weighting was used as the main analysis method, MR-Egger, and weight median as other analysis methods for MR analysis. ⋯ Inverse variance weighting results showed that the increase in triglyceride level affected the incidence of MI (OR = 1.287; 95% CI = 1.185-1.398; P = 1.988 × 10-9). Consistently, the results from all 3 methods indicated a statistically significant increase in the risk of MI with higher triglyceride levels (P < .05). The results showed that patients with high triglyceride levels had a higher incidence of MI, suggesting that MI should be prevented in the high triglyceride population.

Comparative analysis of learning motivation, strategies, and effectiveness between medical interns and PGY during the pandemic.
In the post-pandemic era, medical education faces significant shifts in learning modes. This study, employing cross-sectional research from 2021 to 2022, surveyed 214 participants, including 104 medical interns and 110 Post-Graduate Year trainees in Taiwan. Findings revealed notable differences between the groups in age and current internship hospital. ⋯ In terms of learning attitudes and motivations, medical interns outscored Post-Graduate Year trainees, indicating a substantial contrast. The study suggests strategic integration of online and traditional education, tailored to course characteristics. Future research should further explore the effectiveness of online learning, aiming to optimize digital learning while preserving traditional education values.

Serum hemoglobin plays an important role in bone metabolism. However, the association between serum hemoglobin levels and bone mineral density (BMD) remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the relationship between serum hemoglobin levels and lumbar spine BMD in adults. ⋯ Additionally, smooth curve fitting and threshold effect analyses showed a negative correlation between the serum hemoglobin level and the lumbar spine BMD, with a saturation effect at 15 g/dL. Our findings demonstrated an association between hemoglobin levels and the lumbar spine BMD in adults, characterized by a nonlinear relationship. Thus, monitoring the serum hemoglobin level could aid in the early detection of risks associated with bone metabolic disorders such as osteoporosis.
