Clinical and laboratory characteristics of asymptomatic and symptomatic neurosyphilis in HIV-infected patients: A retrospective study in China.
There are high rates of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Treponema pallidum coinfection, HIV can increase the incidence and disability rate of neurosyphilis. However, there is a lack of data about the risk factors associated with the development of symptomatic neurosyphilis (SNS). We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of inpatients with concurrent syphilis and HIV infection who underwent a lumbar puncture and completed cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) examination. ⋯ In multivariable logistic regression, high CSF WBC count (odds ratio = 1.08; P = .032) and previous treatment of syphilis (odds ratio = 0.01; P = .049) related to the SNS. Lack of antisyphilis treatment in the early stage of syphilis and a higher CSF WBC count are related risk factors for SNS in HIV-infected patients. Meningovascular neurosyphilis should get more attention in young patients with cryptogenic stroke.

Associations between life's essential 8 and femoral neck bone mineral density among adults: A national population-based study.
Osteoporosis represents a significant public health issue, impacting both health outcomes and economic costs. This research investigates how cardiovascular health, as indicated by the LE8 score, correlates with bone mineral density (BMD). Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 2011 to 2018 were analyzed in this cross-sectional analysis, including 9018 subjects following the exclusion of individuals lacking BMD or LE8 data. ⋯ Notably, a 10-point increment in the LE8 score was associated with a rise in BMD by 0.04 g/cm² [β = 0.04, 95% CI: 0.03-0.05]. The data indicate a strong positive association between cardiovascular health, as measured by LE8, and BMD. These results support the development of holistic health strategies that promote cardiovascular health to potentially improve bone density.

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, a protective stress response of body and play important role in maintain ER stability. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a severe syndrome, and the molecular mechanisms of AKI has not been fully elucidated. With an increasing understanding of ER stress, ER stress has been investigated and considered a potential and novel therapeutic target in AKI. This study aims to employ a bibliometric approach to analyze research trends and focal points in ER stress associated with AKI over 3 decades. ⋯ The bibliometric analysis comprehensively examines the trends and hotspots on "ER stress and AKI." Studies on AKI related to stress in the ER are still in their infancy. Research should focus on understanding the relationship between ER stress and inflammasome, redox signal pathways and new forms of cell death such as ferroptosis.

Exosomes, which are extracellular vesicles secreted and released from specific cells, exist widely in cell culture supernatants and various body fluids. This study aimed to analyze the research status of exosomes in stroke, and predict developmental trends via bibliometric analyses. The related literature from January 1, 2008 to January 1, 2024 was searched in the Web of Science Core Collection and 943 articles were retrieved. ⋯ In the keyword cluster "Exosomes and the Mechanism of Stroke: Inflammation and Apoptosis," exosomes and inflammation were identified as hotspots. "Functional recovery" was a new trend in the keyword cluster of "Angiogenesis and Functional Recovery after Stroke." China and the United States are the main forces in this field, and both countries focusing on drug treatments. The studies have been published mainly in China and United States. The findings of our bibliometric analyses of the literature may enable researchers to choose appropriate institutions, collaborators, and journals.

Uveal melanoma (UM) is a common health challenge worldwide as a prevalent intraocular malignancy because of its high mortality rate. However, clinical workers do not have an accurate prognostic tool now. Immune function is closely related to tumor development. ⋯ Our study revealed that immune-related lncRNAs are significant in the clinical diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of UM patients. We successfully constructed a lncRNA-based prognostic risk model which may serve as a future reference for the diagnosis and prognosis of UM. Based on this model we also validated the sensitivity of some cancer drugs, which has implications for the future immunotherapy and drug development.
