Celiac disease, characterized as an autoimmune disorder, possesses the capacity to affect multiple organs and systems. Earlier research has indicated an increased risk of kidney diseases associated with celiac disease. However, the potential causal relationship between genetic susceptibility to celiac disease and the risk of kidney diseases remains uncertain. ⋯ Sensitivity analysis indicated the absence of pleiotropy. This study contributes novel evidence establishing a causal link between celiac disease and kidney traits, indicating a potential association between celiac disease and an elevated risk of kidney diseases. The findings provide fresh perspectives for advancing mechanistic and clinical research into kidney diseases associated with celiac disease.

This study aims to investigate the relationship between Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cognition, social support, and mental health among pregnant women proposed for undergoing interventional prenatal diagnosis in Sichuan Province during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 2270 pregnant women (2232 valid) who were proposed to undergo interventional prenatal diagnosis at a tertiary hospital prenatal diagnosis center in Sichuan Province from January to December 2022 were selected by Convenience sampling and surveyed using a self-administered general information questionnaire, social support rating scale, mental health questionnaire (including: Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, Self-Rating Depression Scale), and self-administered COVID-19 cognition questionnaire. Structural equation modeling showed that social support negatively predicted anxiety (β = -0.34, t = -14.98, P < .001) and negatively predicted depressive status (β = -0.21, t = -9.57, P < .001); COVID-19 cognition negatively predicted anxiety (β = -0.76, t = -5.34, P < .001) and depression (β = -0.40, t = -2.99, P < .01); anxiety positively predicted anxiety (β = 0.73, t = 37.34, P < .001). ⋯ The fit indices of the model were: CMIN/DF = 3.071, GFI = 0.999, AGFI = 0.993, CFI = 0.999, RMSEA = 0.030, NFI = 0.998, and TLI = 0.992, indicating that the model had a good fit and the model was scientifically valid. Pregnant women in Sichuan province who are to undergo prenatal interventional diagnosis have a medium level of COVID-19 awareness, and their level of COVID-19 awareness and social support will directly affect their anxiety and depression level, and their anxiety level will also affect their depression level. We should give more attention to pregnant women, especially those in particular situations such as advanced age, poor maternal history, family history of genetic disease, etc, they should be given adequate care and social support, and multiple channels and types of health education should be provided for the COVID-19 to improve the pregnant women's knowledge of COVID-19, which is important for improving the mental health of pregnant women.

Association of high serum β2-microglobulin levels with poor functional outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke: A cohort study.
We evaluated the association between serum β2-microglobulin (β2M) levels and prognosis in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and determined whether the association was affected by any clinical variables. This prospective study included 533 patients with AIS who were admitted to the Hospital of Nanhua Affiliated with the University of South China for treatment from June 1, 2021, to July 31, 2022. Using multiple regression modeling, the association between serum β2M levels and poor functional outcomes-which were classified as being modified Rankin Scale scores of 3 to 6 (composite score of death and major disability), 3 to 5 (major disability), and 6 (death)-were assessed 3 months after stroke onset. ⋯ The risk prediction for the combined outcome of death and major disability improved after incorporating β2M levels into models that included conventional risk factors. Subgroup analysis revealed a significant impact on the association between serum β2M levels and poor functional outcomes only in patients with AIS whose time from onset to hospitalization was <12 hours (P for interaction < .05). Elevated serum β2M levels were associated with poor functional outcomes in patients with AIS, possibly affected by the time from onset to hospitalization.

To characterize the clinicopathological features and treatment outcomes of juvenile idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (JIIM) with anti-melanoma differentiation associated gene 5 (MDA5) antibodies in a Chinese cohort. Anti-MDA5 antibody was detected by immunodot assay and indirect immunofluorescence assay on HEK293 cells in a series of Chinese JIIM cohort between 2005 and 2022. The clinical features, histological findings, and treatment outcomes of these anti-MDA5-antibody-positive patients were summarized. ⋯ Our study indicates that anti-MDA5 antibodies may not be common in Chinese JIIM. Anti-MDA5-positive JIIMs are characterized by typical skin lesions of dermatomyositis, normal CK levels, and increased major histocompatibility complex class-I expression. JIIMs with anti-MDA5 generally have good response to immunotherapies.

Biliary system anomalies, such as duplicated gallbladders, are rare congenital conditions that present significant diagnostic challenges. Dr. Boyden's classification system, especially the H-type anomaly, offers vital insight into these variations. Failure to detect these anomalies preoperatively can increase the risk of surgical complications, making early identification crucial for surgical planning. ⋯ This case emphasizes the importance of recognizing biliary anomalies such as duplicated gallbladders to avoid complications during surgery. Preoperative identification, aided by imaging, and careful surgical planning are key to managing these rare conditions. The case contributes to the growing body of knowledge about biliary system anomalies and reinforces the need for comprehensive management strategies to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
