Randomized Controlled Trial
A study on the impact of gargling with compound Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi on oral health and microflora changes in fixed orthodontic patients: An experimental study.
To investigate the effect of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi gargle on oral health and changes in oral bacteria among orthodontic patients. ⋯ In fixed orthodontic treatment, S. baicalensis Georgi gargle can effectively inhibit oral pathogens and maintain periodontal health.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Efficacy and safety of deferoxamine in moderately ill COVID-19 patients: An open label, randomized controlled trial.
Deferoxamine is a potent iron chelator that could remove iron from the virus, and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 requires iron to replication. Also, deferoxamine has antioxidant and cytokine-modulating effects. Therefore, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of deferoxamine in patients with moderate coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). ⋯ Deferoxamine had no significant impact on improving moderately ill patients with COVID-19. However, it was well-tolerated in the patients, and this intervention demonstrated a safe profile of adverse events.

Obturator hernia (OH) is a rare and dangerous disease that can lead to life-threatening consequences, and pelvic computed tomography (CT) is widely used for its diagnosis. There is no consensus regarding the surgical approach and repair methods. Retrospective analysis of the clinical and follow-up data of 15 cases of incarcerated hernias patients admitted to the Department of General Surgery, affiliated to Taicang Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, from January 2011 to December 2022. ⋯ Pelvic CT can be used as a gold standard for the diagnosis of incarcerated OH, but it has limited value in occult OH and non-strangulated OH. Laparoscopic surgery is recommended for patients with a short onset time and no abdominal physical signs. Tissue repair is sufficient for incarcerated OH and hernial sac excision may be unnecessary.

Observational Study
Application of objective optical quality analysis system in guiding early posterior capsule opacification laser treatment: An observational study.
In the present study, we aimed to demonstrate the objective guiding role of objective scatter index (OSI) in patients with early stage posterior capsule opacification (PCO), especially in patients with multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. A prospective randomized case analysis was conducted on elderly patients experiencing PCO, exhibiting best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) below 0.2 LogMAR. Exclusion criteria comprised patients with diabetes, glaucoma, high myopia, trauma, endothelial dystrophy, maculopathy or prior eye surgery affecting visual acuity. ⋯ Post-laser posterior capsulotomy, patients reported a marked improvement in self-perceived symptoms. The OQAS functioned as an objective assessment metric for the laser treatment of early stage PCO. In cases involving multifocal IOL implantation, the visual disturbance caused by PCO was more pronounced, underscoring the significance of OSI as a valuable guide for laser treatment in these patients.

Case Reports
Navigating complex cardiac complications: A case report of alcoholic cardiomyopathy and right atrial thrombosis.
Alcoholic cardiomyopathy (ACM) is associated with various cardiac complications, but the development of isolated right atrial (RA) thrombus without deep vein thrombosis is rare and presents diagnostic challenges. ⋯ RA thrombosis is an uncommon complication of ACM. A multimodal imaging approach, with a low threshold for transesophageal echocardiography, is crucial in evaluating patients with ACM who present with cardiac complications. This approach enables accurate diagnosis and management of rare conditions like isolated RA thrombosis.
