Review Case Reports
Traumatic spinal subdural hematoma with spontaneous resolution.
A case report with a literature review is presented. ⋯ This 12-year-old boy illustrated the rapid spontaneous resolution of traumatic subdural hematoma in both left hemisphere and lumbar spine with conservative treatment. This report suggests a possible role of conservative management for traumatic lumbar subdural hematoma, especially when the patients already have neurologic recovery.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial
One versus two BAK fusion cages in posterior lumbar interbody fusion to L4-L5 degenerative spondylolisthesis: a randomized, controlled prospective study in 25 patients with minimum two-year follow-up.
We accomplish posterior lumbar interbody fusion using posterolateral insertion of a single BAK fusion cage (Sulzer Spine-Tech, Minneapolis, MN) with unilateral facetectomy and hemilaminectomy. ⋯ Posterior lumbar interbody fusion using diagonal insertion of a single threaded cage by a posterior approach with unilateral facetectomy enables sufficient decompression and solid interbody arthrodesis to be achieved while maintaining a majority of the posterior elements. It is a clinically safe, easy, and economic technique to treat lumbar degenerative spondylolisthesis.

Clinical Trial
The impact of self-retaining retractors on the paraspinal muscles during posterior spinal surgery.
This was a prospective pilot study examining pre-, intra- and postoperative measures. ⋯ A substantial rise in pressure in the erector spinae muscle during posterior spinal surgery was observed, and this appeared to be associated with marked changes in the function of the muscles. This could be an important factor in the generation of operative scar tissue and postoperative dysfunction of the spinal muscles.

A retrospective review of 20 patients undergoing circumferential lumbar fusion with coralline hydroxyapatite blocks anteriorly and autograft with transpedicular or translaminar facet screw fixation posteriorly. ⋯ Coralline hydroxyapatite is a practicable anterior lumbar interbody fusion alternative to autograft and allograft as part of a circumferential fusion with rigid posterior fixation. It is not recommended for stand-alone anterior lumbar interbody fusion without further study.

Cross-sectional clinical and radiologic study with a normal control group. ⋯ We could not demonstrate the presence of atlantoaxial rotatory subluxation or atlantoaxial rotatory fixation in our series of 33 consecutive pediatric patients with acute torticollis. Our findings suggest that the existence of these phenomena are doubtful, although not associated with acute acquired torticollis. Acute acquired torticollis is not necessarily the sign of a pathologic condition of the atlantoaxial joint. Finally, it is probably not necessary to obtain computed tomography scans (static or dynamic) in this group of patients at the time of presentation.
