Functional MR imaging of regional brain activation associated with the affective experience of pain.
Current models propose that the experience of pain includes both sensory and affective components. Our purpose was to use functional MR imaging to determine areas of the brain engaged by the affective dimension of pain. ⋯ Compared with the basic sensory processing of pain, the affective dimension of pain activates a cortical network that includes the right superior frontal gyrus, the right cuneus, and a large area of the anterior cingulate gyrus.

Fast three-point dixon MR imaging using low-resolution images for phase correction: a comparison with chemical shift selective fat suppression for pediatric musculoskeletal imaging.
The purpose of this study is to describe and to implement a new fast three-point Dixon MR imaging sequence with online image reconstruction, and to compare this sequence with conventional chemical shift selective (CHESS) suppression of fat in pediatric musculoskeletal imaging. ⋯ Compared with CHESS, the new fast three-point Dixon sequence with online image reconstruction provides superior fat suppression and lesion conspicuity and can be routinely used in pediatric musculoskeletal imaging.

Abdominal wall hernias: cross-sectional imaging signs of incarceration determined with sonography.
The aim of this study was to determine with sonography whether distinct cross-sectional imaging signs exist that may differentiate between incarcerated and nonincarcerated abdominal wall hernias. ⋯ Cross-sectional imaging signs indicating hernial incarceration included free fluid in the hernial sac, bowel wall thickening in the hernia, fluid in the herniated bowel loop, and dilated bowel loops in the abdomen. Sonography is an appropriate cross-sectional imaging modality for detecting these signs that are helpful in diagnosing patients with atypical clinical presentations.
