Cardiac MRI and pulmonary MR angiography of sinus venosus defect and partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection in cause of right undiagnosed ventricular enlargement.
Patients may be referred for cardiology assessment because of an enlarged right ventricle (RV) with no cause apparent on echocardiography. Cardiac MRI can contribute to the management of these patients by detecting sinus venosus defect or partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection (PAPVC). We sought to show how often sinus venosus defect or PAPVC was detected on MRI in patients with an enlarged RV without a previously established definite diagnosis. ⋯ This article about cardiac MRI in adults with sinus venosus defect and PAPVC shows that cardiac MRI can reliably detect and quantify these lesions when other methods have not provided a complete diagnosis for the cause of right heart enlargement.

Quantitative CT in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: inspiratory and expiratory assessment.
The purpose of this study was to determine whether measurements of lung attenuation at inspiration and expiration obtained from 3D lung reconstructions reflect the severity of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. ⋯ Measurements of lung attenuation obtained at inspiration and visual score better reflect abnormal results of pulmonary function tests in patients with less severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease than do measurements obtained at expiration. Measurements of lung attenuation obtained at expiration better reflect pulmonary function abnormalities in patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Comparative StudyComparison of 3-T MRI and arthroscopy of intrinsic wrist ligament and TFCC tears.
This study assesses the sensitivity and specificity of MRI at 3 T compared with arthroscopy for detection of intrinsic wrist ligament and triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) tears. ⋯ MRI at 3 T is sensitive and specific for detection of wrist ligament tears. MR arthrography is more sensitive for ligament evaluation but can result in false-positive findings because of microperforations.

Evaluation of a single-pass continuous whole-body 16-MDCT protocol for patients with polytrauma.
The purpose of this study was to compare a conventional multiregional MDCT protocol with two continuous single-pass whole-body MDCT protocols in imaging of patients with polytrauma. ⋯ Use of single-pass continuous whole-body MDCT protocols can significantly decrease examination time for patients with polytrauma and improve image quality compared with a conventional serial scan protocol. Monophasic injection with highly concentrated contrast medium can reduce injection flow rate and should therefore be preferred to a biphasic injection technique.

Controlled Clinical TrialCT-guided percutaneous catheter drainage of acute necrotizing pancreatitis: clinical experience and observations in patients with sterile and infected necrosis.
The purpose of this study was to report on clinical experience with and observations made during primary CT-guided percutaneous catheter drainage of acute necrotizing pancreatitis and to compare results among patients with sterile and those with infected necrosis. ⋯ In our experience, primary CT-guided percutaneous catheter drainage was successful for approximately one half of the patients with acute necrotizing pancreatitis. The presence of multisystem organ failure appears to be a more important indicator of outcome than does the presence of infection.
