In this study we evaluated the validity of garment-based quadriceps stimulation (GQS) for assessment of muscle inactivation in comparison with femoral nerve stimulation (FNS). ⋯ GQS can be used with confidence for straightforward evaluation of quadriceps muscle inactivation, whereas its validity for assessment of contractile properties remains to be determined.

Anatomical and ultrasound correlation of the superficial branch of the radial nerve.
This anatomical study evaluates the role and correlation of ultrasound (US) with anatomy in depicting the superficial branch of the radial nerve (SBRN) and to evaluate the feasibility of US guided perineural infiltration as a potential therapeutic option in Wartenberg syndrome. ⋯ With US it is possible to examine and differentiate all segments of the SBRN. US guidance can be used for perineural injection of all relevant segments.

The first episode of hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsy (HNPP) in childhood is rare. ⋯ Clinical suspicion of HNPP even when nerve conduction study results do not fulfill HNPP criteria should indicate genetic testing. In our patients, early-onset HNPP was associated frequently with isoleucine92valine LITAF polymorphism.

Patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) are prone to venous thromboembolism (VTE) and secondary complications. Because there is an increased incidence of VTE after surgical procedures, placement of a Diaphragm Pacing System (DPS) in ALS patients as treatment for respiratory muscle weakness could potentially increase the incidence of VTE, especially in patients with limited mobility. ⋯ These patients highlight the need to consider preoperative screening for DVT and postoperative thromboprophylaxis in high-risk ALS patients who undergo DPS placement.

Cross-sectional area (CSA) reference values of lower extremity nerves using ultrasonography have only been reported in a few studies and have been limited to white populations. ⋯ The lower extremity nerve CSA values obtained in this study may provide normal reference values for the Asian population.
