Liver tumor boundaries identified intraoperatively using real-time indocyanine green fluorescence imaging.
Clear delineation between tumors and normal tissues is ideal for real-time surgical navigation imaging. We investigated applying indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging navigation using an intraoperative administration method in liver resection. ⋯ ICG fluorescence imaging navigation is a promising, simple, and safe tool for routine real-time intraoperative imaging during hepatic resection and clinical exploration in hepatocellular carcinoma, enabling high sensibility for identifying liver resection margins and detecting tiny superficial tumors.

Severe weight loss during preoperative chemoradiotherapy compromises survival outcome for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer.
In addition to tumor factors, poor nutritional status before and during anti-tumor treatment might compromise prognosis in several types of cancer. This study was done to determine the impact of weight loss during preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) on the survival outcome of patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). ⋯ Our results demonstrate that SWL during preoperative CRT indeed compromises survival outcome in patients with LARC. Routine nutritional monitoring and nutritional support during preoperative CRT are suggested as the integral part of the multidisciplinary approach for these patients.

Prognostic value of decreased GRK6 expression in lung adenocarcinoma.
In recent years, G protein-coupled receptor kinases (GRKs) have been implicated in cancer metastasis through phosphorylation of the activated form of G protein-coupled receptors. However, little is known of GRK6 expression in lung adenocarcinoma (LADC) and its potential prognostic value in LADC. ⋯ These findings indicate for the first time that decreased expression of GRK6 may serve as an independent predictor of overall survival in LADC patients.

Long noncoding RNA NEAT1 is an unfavorable prognostic factor and regulates migration and invasion in gastric cancer.
Long noncoding RNAs (LncRNAs) have been demonstrated as playing important roles in diverse biological processes including tumorigenesis. However, the clinical significance and biological function of LncRNA nuclear-enriched abundant transcript 1 (NEAT1) in gastric cancer are still unknown. The aim of this study was to identify the role of LncRNA NEAT1 in gastric cancer. ⋯ LncRNA NEAT1 plays an important role on gastric cancer tumorigenesis and progression and may act as a potential biomarker for therapeutic strategy and prognostic prediction.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffect of smoking cessation counseling within a randomised study on early detection of lung cancer in Germany.
In the German lung cancer screening trial LUSI, smoking cessation counseling (SCC) was offered to all participants at time of randomization, and smoking habits were asked for within annual questionnaire inquiries. We analyzed the smoking habits of the participants within the first 2 years of follow-up and especially the potential effect of the SCC on these habits. ⋯ We did not see a tendency to increased smoking among participants of the intervention arm or the entire study. The decline of smoking prevalence among the attendees of the counseling might be due to self-selection. Since the issue of effectiveness of smoking cessation counseling is important, further research with randomization into offering counseling or no intervention should be taken into consideration.
