ReviewCancer patient survival by socioeconomic status in seven countries: a review for six common cancer sites [corrected].
To study the size and consistency of socioeconomic differences in cancer patient survival as reported in published studies. ⋯ Socioeconomic differences in cancer survival are generally small and their contribution to socioeconomic differences in cancer mortality is probably small too. These findings have implications for the type of health policy measures which should be taken to reduce socioeconomic differences in cancer mortality.

Development and results of a questionnaire to measure carer satisfaction after stroke.
To develop a carer satisfaction questionnaire for use as an outcome measure in stroke, to test the measure for reliability and validity, and to survey levels of carer satisfaction with services for stroke patients. ⋯ Carer satisfaction is an important outcome measure in stroke research. This study has shown that carers are dissatisfied with services after hospital discharge. Our questionnaire is valid, reliable, and sensitive and could be used to test interventions aimed at improving services.

Differences in priorities assigned to patients by triage nurses and by consultant physicians in accident and emergency departments.
To investigate whether the greater urgency assigned to accident and emergency patients by triage nurses than by accident and emergency doctors was uniform across all patient groups. ⋯ These findings have implications for all those involved in the organisation of triage systems and in the training of nurses in accident and emergency departments. It is essential that judgements on how urgently patients need to be seen are made in a completely objective manner.
