Controlled Clinical TrialEducational intervention to reduce falls and fear of falling in patients after fragility fracture: results of a controlled pilot study.
Falls and fear of falling are a major health problem. We sought to determine the effectiveness of an educational intervention in reducing fear of falling and preventing recurrent falls in community-dwelling patients after a fragility fracture. ⋯ An educational intervention undertaken in the Emergency Department was no more effective than usual care in reducing fear of falling or recurrent falls in community-dwelling patients. Future strategies must address a number of dimensions beyond simple education.

The association between physical activity and obesity are age and sex related. ⋯ Obese Canadians are less active, but overweight men tend to be more active than those with normal weight. The variation in the associations across age and sex groups suggests that intervention program development should take age and sex into consideration.

Acculturation and physical activity in a working class multiethnic population.
Determinants of physical activity in minority populations remain under-explored. Acculturation is one proposed mechanism for the disparities that exist between racial and ethnic groups in health outcomes. ⋯ Language acculturation and generation were positively associated with leisure-time activity. Language acculturation is also associated with occupational activity. Acculturation is important to consider when designing public health interventions.
