We report race-related differences in response to behavioral interventions in colorectal cancer (CRC) screening. ⋯ Whites and African Americans may respond differently to mailed interventions intended to increase CRC screening. Research is needed on methods that can both increase screening and racial equity in screening.

Perceived environmental correlates of physical activity for leisure and transportation in Curitiba, Brazil.
Physical activity (PA) has consistently been associated with perceived environmental characteristics. ⋯ Different environmental attributes were associated with different PA outcomes, suggesting that these relationships are complex and may differ from those in high-income countries.

Building community-engaged health research and discovery infrastructure on the South Side of Chicago: science in service to community priorities.
To describe the roles community members can and should play in, and an asset-based strategy used by Chicago's South Side Health and Vitality Studies for, building sustainable, large-scale community health research infrastructure. The Studies are a family of research efforts aiming to produce actionable knowledge to inform health policy, programming, and investments for the region. ⋯ Community and university collaborators, with shared vision and principles, can effectively work together to plan innovative, large-scale community-based research that serves community needs and priorities. Sustainable, effective models are needed to realize NIH's mandate for meaningful translation of biomedical discovery into improved population health.

Age-related differences in physical activity profiles of English adults.
Describe the proportion of total moderate or vigorous physical activity (MVPA) time that is represented by specific types of physical activity among active adults. ⋯ The physical activity profile of physically active English adults varies with age. Age-specific interventions to increase physical activity among adults may be needed.

Community capacity building has emerged as an important element in effective health promotion practice. The literature highlights many interpretations of community capacity building. Like other broad concepts such as community and social capital, the term 'community capacity building' is not easily captured. The context in which capacity is built is important and possibly contributes to the array of definitions. ⋯ The commonality in definition challenges the idea that the term 'capacity building' is fraught with a plethora of meanings. The formula can be utilised by communities needing to define capacity building for their own purposes, in their own contexts.
