Development of a prediction model for 10-year risk of hepatocellular carcinoma in middle-aged Japanese: the Japan Public Health Center-based Prospective Study Cohort II.
The purpose of the present study was to develop a risk estimation model for the 10-year risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) that could be easily used in a general population to aid in the prevention of HCC. ⋯ We developed a simple 10-year risk prediction model for HCC in the Japanese general population as a public education tool.

Increased risk of chronic kidney disease among users of non-prescribed Chinese herbal medicine in Taiwan.
Taiwan has the highest incidence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) worldwide. Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) has been linked to CKD/ESRD in Taiwan. The specific effects and frequency of CHM on the risk of CKD are unknown. ⋯ Occasional use of non-prescribed CHM was associated with the risk of CKD in Taiwan.

Using colorectal trends in the U.S. to identify unmet primary care needs of vulnerable populations.
Colorectal cancer screening (CRC) disparities have worsened in recent years. ⋯ Among ethnic/racial groups examined, only Mexicans met healthcare disparity criteria in CRC screening. Findings suggest that healthcare equity goals can be attained if resources affecting continuity of care or ability to pay for preventive services are available, and targeted populations are adequately identified.
