Knowledge of cancer risk factors and risk-reduction in high-income countries.
According to the International Public Opinion Survey on Cancer 2020, on average, nearly 1 in 3 individuals in high-income countries (HIC) did not engage in risk reduction. Meanwhile, only 1 in 4 individuals reported being aware that eating red and processed meat was a cancer risk factor. We explored relations between risk-reduction behavior and self-perceived knowledge of cancer risk factors in HIC using data from the survey. ⋯ Every unit increase in the proportion of the population knowledgeable about a cancer risk factor, on average across risk factors and HIC, significantly increases the proportion of people engaging in risk reduction by approximately 16.91%. A significant interaction effect was found between knowledge and country, but not between knowledge and risk factor. Using respondents' non-response options to represent lack of risk factor knowledge Japan had the largest percentage of individuals lacking knowledge about risk factors as well as the largest percentage of individuals not engaging in risk reduction.

Analysis of metabolic syndrome and cognitive functional analysis in schizophrenic patients based on psychological intervention.
In this paper, we explore the characteristics of cognitive dysfunction in patients with schizophrenia complicated with metabolic syndrome (MS), and to explore the effects of psychological intervention on MS and cognitive function changes in patients with schizophrenia, and to provide theoretical basis for early intervention of MS. 159 patients with schizophrenia were retrospectively analyzed and divided into 2 groups according to whether they were accompanied by MS. (41 cases), the second group was not MS. (118 cases). Results shows PANSS total score as (53.72 ± 5.03), positive symptom score (12.39 ± 2.68), negative symptom score (14.94 ± 3.27), general pathological score (26.27 ± 3.63). ⋯ Increasing psychological intervention can effectively improve the therapeutic effect and cognitive function of schizophrenia patients. Early identification and intervention of MS in the clinical treatment of schizophrenia is particularly important.

A novel protective role of lipoxin in inhibiting diabetic vascular calcification via YAP signalling: Health prevention and regulation.
Vascular calcification is highly prevalent in diabetes patients, with detrimental consequences and no effective prevention and treatment strategies are currently available. Though the protective effect of lipoxin (LX) against vascular diseases has been demonstrated, its effect on diabetic vascular calcification remains unknown. AGEs dose-dependently induced calcification and the expression of osteogenesis-related markers, coupled with the activation of yes-associated protein (YAP). ⋯ Further, an in vivo diabetic mouse model was established using a combination of a high-fat diet and multiple formulations of low-dose streptozotocin. Consistent with the in vitro results, diabetes promoted YAP expression and its subcellular localization in the nucleus in the arterial tunica media. The results demonstrate that LX attenuates the trans-differentiation and calcification of VSMCs in diabetes mellitus via YAP signalling, suggesting LX to be a potent therapeutic for preventing diabetic vascular calcification.

Accumulating evidence suggests that the built environment may be associated with cardiovascular disease via its influence on health behaviours. The aim of this study was to estimate the associations between traditional and novel neighbourhood built environment metrics and clinically assessed cardio-metabolic risk factors among a sample of adults in Canada. A total of 7171 participants from Albertas Tomorrow Project living in Alberta, Canada, were included. ⋯ Space syntax walkability was also associated with lower odds of overweight/obese among women and men (OR = 0.93, 95% CI 0.87, 0.99 and OR = 0.88, 95% CI 0.79, 0.97, respectively). No significant associations were observed between traditional walkability and cardio-metabolic outcomes. This study showed that the novel built environment metric based on the space syntax theory was associated with some cardio-metabolic risk factors.

Yield and cost of government-organized colorectal cancer screening in young high-risk population in Northeast China.
Guidelines for colorectal cancer (CRC) screening recommend screening at age 40 for high-risk population in China. However, the yield and cost of CRC screening in younger population are lacking. This analysis aimed to evaluate the yield and cost of CRC screening in high-risk 40- to 54-year-olds. ⋯ Among the male screening population, NNS and cost to detect one advanced lesion in participants aged 45-49 years were similar to that aged 50-54 years, saving approximately half endoscopic resources and financial expenses compared with screening that aged 40-44 years. From the perspective of screening results and costs, it might be beneficial to delay the starting age of screening by gender. This study may provide reference for optimizing CRC screening strategies.
