[Evaluation of regional anesthesia procedure in an emergency department].
Evaluation of regional anaesthesia procedures for limb traumatic surgery performed in an emergency department. ⋯ In our study, regional anaesthesia is the most used technique when compared to general anaesthesia for emergency procedure. The anaesthetic staff has to be motivated and trained.

Case Reports[Orbital exenteration: an unusual cause of failure of assisted ventilation from a face mask].
Orbitary exenteration for tumor may concern ethmoidal wall, and may create a large communication between the orbital cavity and the cavum. We present the case of a patient scheduled for ocular prosthetic surgery after an unilateral orbitary exenteration. ⋯ We recommend orbitary radiographic and clinical evaluations for patient with orbitary exenteration before general anaesthesia to evaluate the communication between the orbital cavity and the cavum. Such an anatomic communication may result in inefficient facial mask ventilation.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial[Comparison of nicardipine and isradipine in hypertension following coronary artery bypass graft].
Compare the efficacy of isradipine to that of nicardipine for the control of arterial hypertension following coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). ⋯ Isradipine is effective in the treatment of arterial hypertension following CABG. However there is not any significant beneficial effect of isradipine over nicardipine.

Review of the physiological and clinical consequences of hyperchloraemic acidosis observed during plasma volume replacement using crystalloids and colloids. ⋯ The use of balanced solution like lactated-Ringer solution instead of isotonic saline solution for fluid resuscitation, except for specific contra-indication as intracranial hypertension, may avoid hyperchloraemic acidosis. Potential risk of this acidosis led to the conception of a new colloid using balanced crystalloids solution as the solvent (Hextend).

Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Diagnosis of ventilator-associated pneumonia: a prospective comparison of the telescoping plugged catheter with the endotracheal aspirate].
Quantitative culture of endotracheal aspirates (EA) is widely accepted for the diagnosis of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). The aim of the study was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of the EA with the blinded plugged telescoping catheter (PTC) in patients suspected of VAP. ⋯ EA is a good diagnostic test when a non-invasive test has been chosen. The diagnosis of VAP could be excluded in 90% of cases when the EA cultures yielding were < 10(5) cfu.mL-1. His low specificity could drive in an over treatment of bronchopulmonar bacterial colonization. The accuracy of the EA compares well with that of the TPC for the diagnostic of VAP.
