[Structured rehabilitation after lumbar spine surgery : subacute treatment phase].
There are currently no uniform standards regarding rehabilitation of patients after lumbar spine surgery. Due to significant improvements in surgical methods in recent years, an increase in postoperative training intensity is now possible. Conservative rehabilitation has yet to adapt to this reality. Earlier initiation of structured rehabilitation after the acute phase is often regarded with skepticism. ⋯ A structured postoperative rehabilitation program results in significant improvements in the parameters of pain and quality of life, and does not increase the risk of postoperative complications.

[Reconstruction of osteochondral defects with a collagen I hydrogel. Results of a prospective multicenter study].
The aim of the study was to evaluate the therapeutic benefit of CaReS®, a type I collagen hydrogel-based autologous chondrocyte implantation technique, for the treatment of osteochondral defects of the knee (Outerbridge grades III and IV) within a prospective multicenter study. ⋯ The CaReS technique is a clinically effective and safe method for the reconstruction of isolated osteochondral defects of the knee joint and reveals promising clinical outcome up to 5 years after surgery. A longer follow-up period and larger patient cohorts are needed to evaluate the sustainability of CaReS treatment.

[Effective pain relief facilitates exercise therapy : Results of a multicenter study with controlled-release oxycodone in patients with movement pain].
The efficacy and tolerability of oral controlled-release oxycodone in the therapy of musculoskeletal pain were analyzed in this observational study. ⋯ The therapy of pain of the musculoskeletal system with controlled-release oxycodone is efficient. An effective pain relief makes physical therapy practicable, reduces the impairment in different parts of life, and increases quality of life.

[The evaluation of balloonkyphoplasty for osteoporotic vertebral fractures. An interdisciplinary concept].
Patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures frequently complain of pain and a loss of function and mobility. Such fractures are associated with an increased mortality. The common treatment with bed rest, bracing or osteosynthesis does not lead to satisfying results. With two new surgical techniques, vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty, an internal stabilisation of osteoporotic vertebral fractures is possible. ⋯ Kyphoplasty is a reliable and minimally invasive method for stabilizing fractured osteoporotic vertebral bodies. Improvement of pain and function and a regain in height of the treated vertebral body can be accomplished.
