To investigate how empathic communication is expressed in interpreter-mediated consultations (IMCs) and the interpreter's effect on it. ⋯ Doctors and interpreters require skills to detect patient cues, assess them correctly, render them completely and in an appropriate manner (interpreters) and display communicative behaviours that take into account the intricacies of interpreter-mediated clinical communication and facilitate each other's communicative goals.

This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the effectiveness of diabetes self-management education (DSME) in reducing glycosylated hemoglobin (A1C) levels in adult Latinos with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). ⋯ The heterogeneity in the study methodologies reinforce the need for additional studies to better understand DSME interventions to reduce disparities in Latino adults with T2DM.

A partnership-oriented communication style is globally recommended for medical practice. A culturally-sensitive doctor-patient communication guideline is also needed for Southeast Asia. The 'Greet-Invite-Discuss' guideline was established and tested with primary care doctors and their patients in Indonesia. ⋯ Using a partnership-oriented and culturally-sensitive communication guideline, doctors can improve their communication skills with their patients towards optimum health outcomes.

Improved patient participation through advance care planning in nursing homes-A cluster randomized clinical trial.
To improve patient participation in advance care planning in nursing homes where most patients have some degree of cognitive impairment. ⋯ Patients with cognitive impairment should be included in advance care planning supported by next of kin. A whole-ward approach may be used to implement advance care planning.

How and how much is spirituality discussed in palliative care consultations for advanced cancer patients with and without a question prompt list?
Patients want to discuss spirituality more with their doctors but feel disempowered. Question prompt lists (QPLs) assist conversations. This study assessed the impact of a QPL on spirituality discussions in Palliative Care (PC). ⋯ Doctors caring for patients at the end of life should routinely raise spiritual issues.
