In addition to diffuse brain oedema, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) can lead to ischaemic or haemorrhagic stroke, extrapontine myelinolysis, and sinovenous thrombosis. However, posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) and spinal cord oedema are rarely reported in patients with DKA. ⋯ To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report describing PRES with spinal cord involvement as a complication of DKA. PRES is a rare complication that should be considered along with other neurological complications of DKA when focal deficits appear.

Management of idiopathic spinal epidural lipomatosis: a case report and review of the literature.
Spinal epidural lipomatosis (SEL) is a rare pathologic growth of histologically normal unencapsulated adipose tissue in the epidural space. Although rare, SEL can compress the spinal cord or nerve roots causing myelopathy or radiculopathy. While SEL has been associated with long-term exposure to endogenous or exogenous steroids and obesity, idiopathic forms of SEL are much rarer. ⋯ Idiopathic SEL in the pediatric population is a rare entity. This is the first case of epidural lipomatosis isolated to the cervical region in an adult or child patient. In refractory, symptomatic cases of idiopathic SEL, surgical decompression is often required.

Stroke is rarely seen in children, but it is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Therefore, there is a need for inexpensive and noninvasive diagnostic methods for estimating the prognosis. Although the prognostic importance of hematological parameters in acute ischemic stroke were reported in adult studies, there is a lack in pediatric ages. The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between hematological parameters and prognosis of acute ischemic stroke in children. ⋯ The values of WBC, neutrophil count, and N/L ratio differ significantly from those of the control group. The WBC and N/L ratio may help for an earlier diagnosis in children with acute ischemic stroke. WBC, thrombocyte count, MPV, PDW, and N/L ratio do not constitute a risk in overall survival, disease-free survival, and sequelae development.
