Meta AnalysisAspirin for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in patients with diabetes: A meta-analysis.
Aspirin use for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is controversial, especially in patients with diabetes. The objective of this meta-analysis was to evaluate aspirin's safety and efficacy for primary prevention of CVD [fatal or nonfatal myocardial infarction (MI), fatal or nonfatal stroke, angina, transient ischemic attack (TIA), peripheral artery disease (PAD) and revascularization] in patients with diabetes. ⋯ It remains unclear whether aspirin may reduce the occurrence of a first atherosclerotic event or mortality in patients with diabetes. More research on this use of aspirin in patients with diabetes is required to supplement currently available research.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of glycemic variability in Japanese patients with type 1 diabetes receiving insulin degludec versus insulin glargine using continuous glucose monitoring: A randomized, cross-over, pilot study.
To compare glucose variability in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) treated with insulin glargine (IGla) versus insulin degludec (IDeg) using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). ⋯ The use of once-daily IDeg leads not only to similar glycemic control to that seen with twice-daily IGla even in those who received IGla prior to the study, but also to significant decreases in TDD and long-acting basal insulin dose.

Risk of progression to diabetes from prediabetes defined by HbA1c or fasting plasma glucose criteria in Koreans.
To examine the abilities of HbA1c and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) criteria predicting 5-year progression rate to diabetes in Korean adults with prediabetes. ⋯ Although fewer individuals with prediabetes were identified by HbA1c than by FPG criteria, the ability to predict progression to diabetes was stronger for HbA1c than for FPG in Koreans.

Can HbA1c detect undiagnosed diabetes in acute medical hospital admissions?
To study hyperglycaemia in acute medical admissions to Irish regional hospital. ⋯ HbA1c can play a diagnostic role in acute medicine as it diagnosed another 2% of admissions with diabetes but the discrepancy in sensitivity shows that it does not reflect transient/acute hyperglycaemia resulting from the acute medical event.

Neuroprotective effects of chronic administration of levetiracetam in a rat model of diabetic neuropathy.
Diabetic neuropathy (DNP) is a frequent and serious complication of diabetes mellitus (DM) that leads to progressive and length-dependent loss of peripheral nerve axons. The purpose of the present study is to assess the neuroprotective effects of levetiracetam (LEV) on DNP in a streptozotocin (STZ)-induced DM model in rats. ⋯ The results of the present study suggest that LEV may have therapeutic effects in DNP through modulation of anti-oxidant and anti-apoptotic pathways.
