Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using Carum copticum: Assessment of its quorum sensing and biofilm inhibitory potential against gram negative bacterial pathogens.
Antimicrobial resistance among pathogenic bacteria has become a global threat to human health. Due to poor progress in development of new antimicrobial drugs, there is a need for the development of novel alternative strategies to combat the problem of multidrug resistance. Moreover, there is focus on ecofriendly approach for the synthesis nanoparticles having efficient medicinal properties including antivirulence properties to tackle the emergence of multi-drug resistance. ⋯ Ag@CC-NPs also exhibited broad-spectrum antibiofilm activity with 77.6, 86.3, and 75.1% inhibition of biofilms of P. aeruginosa, S. marcescens, and C. violaceum respectively. The biofilm formation on glass coverslip was reduced remarkably as evident from SEM and CLSM analysis. The findings revealed the in vitro efficacy of Ag@CC-NPs against bacterial pathogens and can be exploited in the development of alternative therapeutic agent in management of bacterial infections for topical application, mainly wound infection, or coating of surfaces to prevent bacterial adherence on medical devices.

Meta AnalysisAssociation between IL-1B gene polymorphisms and Helicobacter pylori infection: A meta-analysis.
To clarify the impact of IL-1B gene polymorphisms (IL-1B-511C/T, IL-1B-31C/T, IL-1B+3954C/T) in Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection by mean of a meta-analysis. ⋯ This meta-analysis suggested that IL-1B-511C/T polymorphism was related to the risk of H. pylori infection. Further larger studies with high quality are needed to conform these findings.

Impact of neonatal malnutrition on expression TLR-9, NF-kB and cytokines of macrophages infected in vitro with methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
Early nutritional aggressions promote epigenetic adjustments that culminate in the loss of phenotype plasticity (with permanent long-term modifications). Maternal diet and inadequate neonatal nutrition can result in fetal programming that presents susceptibility to infections in adult life. Thus, it becomes essential to verify the impacts of neonatal malnutrition (even following nutritional replacement) on the immunological response to methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections. ⋯ In the infectious scenario, immune collapse is reflected in inflammatory response exacerbation with a likely histolytic character. Immune disabling (resulting from gene expression deregulation) causes susceptibility to infections due to ineffective recognition, intense pro-inflammatory mediation, and cell death. It is suggested that neonatal malnutrition can program susceptibility to multiresistant bacterial infections, and generally favors a triggering of more intense confrontations with fatal outcomes.

Mosloflavone attenuates the quorum sensing controlled virulence phenotypes and biofilm formation in Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1: In vitro, in vivo and in silico approach.
Quorum sensing (QS) is the cell density dependent communication network which coordinates the production of pathogenic determinants in majority of pathogenic bacteria. Pseudomonas aeruginosa causes hospital-acquired infections by virtue of its well-defined QS network. As the QS regulatory network in P. aeruginosa regulates the virulence determinants and antibiotic resistance, attenuating the QS system seems to be influential in developing next-generation anti-infective agents. ⋯ The down-regulation of QS virulence phenotypes by mosloflavone could be attributed to its binding affinity with the QS regulatory proteins, LasR and RhlR by competitively inhibiting the binding of natural autoinducers as evidenced from simulation studies. Mosloflavone also exhibited promising potential in controlling bacterial infection in Caenorhabditis elegans model system, in vivo. The anti-biofilm and anti-QS potential of mosloflavone in the current study illustrated the candidature of mosloflavone as a promising biocide.
