Multicenter StudySurveillance of patients with long-segment Barrett's esophagus: A multicenter prospective cohort study in Japan.
The incidence of esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) in cases with long-segment Barrett's esophagus (BE) has not been investigated in Japan. The aim of this study is to investigate the incidence of EAC in Japanese cases with long-segment BE prospectively. ⋯ The incidence rate of EAC in Japanese cases with long-segment BE was calculated to be 1.2% in a year.

Liver stiffness measurement predicts high-grade post-hepatectomy liver failure: A prospective cohort study.
Liver stiffness measurement using transient elastography appears to be an excellent tool for detection of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis with high accuracy. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of preoperative liver stiffness measurement in predicting post-hepatectomy liver failure. ⋯ Liver stiffness measurement using Fibroscan is good to predict high-grade post-hepatectomy liver failure especially in patients without right lobe tumor.

Comparative StudyEchoendoscopic ethanol ablation of tumor combined with celiac plexus neurolysis in patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
Endoscopic ultrasonography guided-celiac plexus neurolysis relieves pain in patients with pancreatic cancer but with often suboptimal and transient results. The study aims to compare the efficacy and safety of endoscopic ultrasound-guided tumor ethanol ablation combined with celiac plexus neurolysis with respect to celiac plexus neurolysis alone for pain management in patients with pancreatic cancer. ⋯ Endoscopic ultrasound-guided tumor ablation combined with celiac plexus neurolysis appears to be superior to celiac plexus neurolysis alone in terms of pain control and overall survival.

Development and validation of a prognostic nomogram for acute-on-chronic hepatitis B liver failure.
Determining individual risk of short-term mortality in patients with acute-on-chronic hepatitis B liver failure (ACHBLF) is a difficult task. We aimed to develop and externally validate a prognostic nomogram for ACHBLF patients. ⋯ The prognostic nomogram provided an individualized risk estimate of short-term survival in patients with ACHBLF, offering to clinicians to improve their abilities to assess patient prognosis.

Hepatitis B, C, and D virus infection showing distinct patterns between injection drug users and the general population.
Hepatitis B, C, and D virus (HBV, HCV, and HDV) infections are known to be prevalent in injection drug users (IDUs); however, the relationship between the molecular epidemiologic features of hepatitis virus infection in high-risk individuals and the general population has not yet been established. ⋯ HBV and HDV infections shared similar patterns by IDUs and the general populations, and HCV infection exhibited distinct features between two populations. Our results suggest different molecular epidemiologic characteristics of HBV, HCV, and HDV infection in two populations.
