Prevalence and Clinical Characteristics of Mitochondrial DNA Mutations in Korean Patients With Sensorineural Hearing Loss.
Mutations in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) are associated with several genetic disorders, including sensorineural hearing loss. However, the prevalence of mtDNA mutations in a large cohort of Korean patients with hearing loss has not yet been investigated. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the frequency of mtDNA mutations in a cohort of with pre- or post-lingual hearing loss of varying severity. ⋯ A significant proportion of Korean patients with hearing loss is affected by the mtDNA variants, with the m.1555A>G variant being the most prevalent. These results clarify the genetic basis of hearing loss in the Korean population and emphasize the need for genetic testing for mtDNA variants.

Case ReportsEosinophilic Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis Following COVID-19 Vaccination: A Case Report.
The current emergence of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and the possible side effects of COVID-19 mRNA vaccination remain worrisome. Few cases of vaccination-related side effects, such as vasculitis, have been reported. Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), also known as Churg-Strauss syndrome, is a type of vasculitis characterized by the histological richness of eosinophils, asthma, polyneuropathy, sinusitis, and skin or lung involvement. ⋯ A 71-year old woman developed a skin rash and presented with progressive weakness of the upper and lower extremities after the BNT162b2 vaccination (Pfizer-BioNTech). She was diagnosed with EGPA and her symptoms improved after systemic steroid and immunosuppressant therapy. Although it is very rare, clinicians should be aware that EGPA may occur after COVID-19 vaccination.

The concept of research integrity (RI) refers to a set of moral and ethical standards that serve as the foundation for the execution of research activities. Integrity in research is the incorporation of principles of honesty, transparency, and respect for ethical standards and norms throughout all stages of the research endeavor, encompassing study design, data collecting, analysis, reporting, and publishing. The preservation of RI is of utmost importance to uphold the credibility and amplify the influence of scientific research while also preventing and dealing with instances of scientific misconduct. ⋯ It requires a collaborative effort and adherence to the principles of honesty, transparency, and rigorous science. By supporting a culture of RI, the scientific community may preserve its core principles and continue to contribute appropriately to society's well-being. It not only aids present research but also lays the foundation for future scientific advancements.

Perioperative Respiratory-Adverse Events Following General Anesthesia Among Pediatric Patients After COVID-19.
The perianesthetic morbidity, mortality risk and anesthesia-associated risk after preoperative coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) omicron variant in pediatric patients have not been fully demonstrated. We examined the association between preoperative COVID-19 omicron diagnosis and the incidence of overall perioperative adverse events in pediatric patients who received general anesthesia. ⋯ Pediatric patients with the preoperative COVID-19 omicron variant had increased risk of PRAEs. Patients within 2 weeks after COVID-19 or those with symptoms had a higher risk of PRAEs.
