Prospective longitudinal evaluation of cytokines in mild cognitive impairment due to AD and Lewy body disease.
We conducted a prospective longitudinal study of plasma cytokines during the Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) stage of Lewy body disease and Alzheimer's disease, hypothesizing that cytokine levels would decrease over time and that this would be correlated with decline in cognition. ⋯ Peripheral inflammation decreased in both disease groups during MCI suggesting this may be a therapeutic window for future anti-inflammatory agents.

Neuropsychiatric symptoms as a distinguishing factor between memory diagnoses.
To determine whether neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) are able to differentiate those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia from persons who are cognitively healthy. ⋯ The present study's results demonstrate that specific NPS are differentially represented among types of cognitive impairment and establish the predictive value for one of these cognitive impairment diagnoses.

How do Admiral Nurses and care home staff help people living with dementia and their family carers prepare for end-of-life?
To explore current practice and the role of UK care homes and Admiral Nurses in helping people living with dementia and their family carers prepare for end-of-life. ⋯ Our survey of care homes and Admiral Nurses, combined with findings from our previous survey of UK memory services, increases our understanding of how services help people with dementia and family carers prepare for end-of-life. We found fragmentation across the service system, lack of continuity, and tensions regarding when these conversations should be initiated and by whom.

ReviewPhysical activity and loneliness among adults aged 50 years or older in six low- and middle-income countries.
Loneliness is widespread and associated with deleterious outcomes in middle-aged and older age people in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Physical activity is one potential psychosocial strategy with the potential to reduce loneliness in this population. Thus, the aim of this study was to explore associations between physical activity (PA) and loneliness in middle-aged and older people from six LMICs. ⋯ Our data suggest that physical inactivity and loneliness commonly co-occur in adults aged 50 years or older in LMICs overall but that this association differs by country. Longitudinal studies are required to confirm these findings and investigate potential mechanisms that may inform future interventions.

Likelihood of depressive symptoms in US older adults by prescribed opioid potency: National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2005-2013.
To investigate the relationships between depressive symptoms and opioid potency among adults aged 50 years and older reporting use of one or more prescription opioids in the past 30 days. ⋯ Compared with older adults without depressive symptoms, older adults with severe depressive symptoms are more likely to be taking high-potency opioid medications. Future prescription opioid medication research should prioritize investigations among older adults with pain-related diagnoses, other than arthritis, reporting preexisting or new symptoms of severe depression.
