Anthocyanins are polyphenols that are promising chemopreventive agents. They stand out for their anti-inflammatory properties, with specific modulatory actions on the immune system. Additionally, regarding the immune system, a group of cells identified as mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been attracting attention, mainly because of their capacity to migrate to sites of inflammation and produce potent immunomodulatory effects. Considering the ability of these cells to act on the immune system, as well as the properties of anthocyanins, especially delphinidin, in modulating the immune system, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of delphinidin in influencing some immunoregulatory properties of MSCs. ⋯ Overall, this work showed that delphinidin can modify the immunomodulatory properties of MSCs, increasing the IL-10 production by macrophages.

The aim of this study was to ascertain the accuracy of phase angle (PhA) as a predictor of mortality during intensive care unit (ICU) stay (MICU) and at 28 (M28) and 60 d (M60) after ICU admission among patients aged >60 y. ⋯ Low PhA values are associated with higher late mortality and a short survival time at 60 d in critically ill older adults. Low PhA values can be considered a useful ICU prognostic score in similar populations.

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between poverty and children's nutritional outcomes. ⋯ A single tool of small money transfer would have limited effects, but considerable income increases that lift the poor out of poverty are important for the poor. Additionally, a mixed tool of financial support and nutritional knowledge may lead to better outcomes, especially for those living above the poverty line.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the association of diet quality with fasting glycemia, insulinemia, and insulin resistance in a cross-sectional sample of adults from families at high risk for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) from six European countries, taking into account their socioeconomic status (SES). ⋯ In adults from families at high risk for T2DM, higher diet quality was negatively associated with fasting insulin levels and IR, only in the high SES group and not in the low SES group. Future larger studies may be able to explore further this association, as well as the potential factors that mitigate its strength in the low SES groups.

Health care workers are in the high-risk group in terms of contracting infection because of their role in providing care to patients with COVID-19. We aim to examine the relationship between perceived stress, emotional eating, and nutritional habits in health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. ⋯ Perceived stress and emotional eating are related to changes in eating/dietary habits among health care workers during the pandemic. We recommend healthy food choices and increased physical activity to reduce emotional eating and mitigate stress.
