Lipids and micronutrients play a major role in the pathophysiology of diabetes, and several studies have established the association between lipids and diabetes. The aim of this study was to determine the interaction between lipid profile and micronutrient status with different prediabetes and diabetes diagnosis criteria among school-aged children in India. ⋯ The interaction between micronutrients and lipids suggests complex multidimensional pathways involving folate, vitamin B12, ferritin, zinc, hemoglobin, and iodine deficiencies. These interactions should be considered when planning diabetes management strategies.

The aim of this study was to` investigate the effects of intermittent fasting (IF) and the possible association with aerobic exercise on performance, oxidative, biochemical, and somatic parameters of Wistar rats. ⋯ Although IF associated with aerobic exercise improved antioxidant capacity caused damage to muscle fibers and lean mass loss, it did not change the performance of the rats.

Skeletal muscle gauge (SMG) was recently introduced as an imaging indicator of sarcopenia. Computed tomography is essential for measuring SMG; thus, the use of SMG is limited to patients who undergo computed tomography. We aimed to develop a machine learning algorithm using clinical and inflammatory markers to predict SMG in patients with colorectal cancer. ⋯ LP-SMG had superior performance than single variables in predicting low SMG. This machine learning model can be used as a screening tool to detect sarcopenic status without using computed tomography during the treatment period.

The study assesses pediatric nurses' knowledge and routine practices in relation to nasogastric tube (NGT) placement and verification procedure. By investigating these aspects, the study seeks to contribute to the enhancement of patient safety and the improvement of pediatric nursing care in the context of NGT procedures by ensuring accurate NGT placement and minimizing complications in pediatric patients. The study assesses pediatric nurses' knowledge and practices of inserting and confirming the placement of NGTs among pediatric patients in the Asir Province, Saudi Arabia. ⋯ The study found that pediatric nurses' knowledge and practices regarding NGT were inadequate. These results highlight the importance of implementing continuous educational programs to improve care practices pertaining to nasogastric tubes and enhance patient safety and quality of care.

Polypharmacy is the simultaneous use of multiple medicines, usually more than five. Polypharmacy is highly prevalent among older individuals and is associated with several adverse health outcomes, including frailty. The role of polypharmacy in nutritional status seems to be crucial: although a clear association between polypharmacy and malnutrition has been widely reported in older people, the magnitude of the effect of increased number of drugs in combination with their type on the risk for malnutrition remains to be largely explored. ⋯ Deprescribing (i.e., a systematic process of identification and discontinuation of drugs or a reduction of drug regimens) could be an essential step for minimizing the effects of polypharmacy on malnutrition. In this regard, the literature suggests that in older patients taking several medications, the best method to solve this problem is the comprehensive geriatric assessment, based on a holistic approach, including drug review, to find potential unnecessary and inappropriate medications. Nutritional and deprescribing interventions must be tailored to patient needs and to the local context to overcome barriers when applied in different settings.
