Randomized Controlled Trial
Recurarization with magnesium sulfate administered after two minutes sugammadex reversal: A randomized, double-blind, controlled trial.
The current study tested the hypothesis that magnesium sulfate after reversal with sugammadex causes recurarization. ⋯ Single-dose magnesium sulfate led to a normalized train-of-four ratio < 0.9, 2 min after recovery from rocuronium-induced deep and moderate neuromuscular blockade using sugammadex. Additional sugammadex reversed prolonged recurarization.

We tested the hypothesis that pre-existing chronic pain is associated with prolonged time to reach sustained acceptable pain scores after major surgery. ⋯ Patients with chronic pain sustain more surgical pain than those without, and the pain takes longer to resolve. Clinicians providing postoperative pain management should consider the special needs of chronic pain patients.

Observational Study
Association between maternal labour epidural analgesia and autistic traits in offspring.
Studies investigating associations between maternal epidural analgesia (MEA) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the offspring are conflicting and lack prospective neurobehavioral follow-up assessments for autistic traits. We aim to prospectively investigate associations between MEA and autistic traits in the offspring. ⋯ MEA is not significantly associated with the development of ASD and autistic traits in offspring, assessed over 7 years. Results should be taken into perspective given our wide confidence intervals and small cohort size.

The effect of COVID-19 infection on post-operative mortality and the optimal timing to perform ambulatory surgery from diagnosis date remains unclear in this population. Our study was to determine whether a history of COVID-19 diagnosis leads to a higher risk of all-cause mortality following ambulatory surgery. ⋯ A COVID-19 positive diagnosis is associated with significantly higher risk of all-cause mortality following ambulatory surgery. This mortality risk is greatest in patients that undergo ambulatory surgery within 45 days of testing positive for COVID-19. Postponing elective ambulatory surgeries in patients that test positive for COVID-19 infection within 45 days of surgery date should be considered, although prospective studies are needed to assess this.

Create personal statements using an artificial intelligence program for anesthesiology residency applications that residency program directors rate as acceptable. ⋯ ChatGPT can create personal statements for residency applications that program directors find acceptable and difficult to differentiate from personally crafted statements. Applicants may stop using expensive contractor application services and start using artificial intelligence software to create their personal statements because of its quickness, low cost, and high quality.
