Historically, the evaluation of the pediatric chest has been accomplished via CT and conventional radiography. Our objective is to discuss and illustrate the role of US as a non-ionizing radiation alternative in the evaluation of the pediatric chest. US is a valuable tool in the evaluation of the pediatric chest. It can be used as a first-line modality in the evaluation of superficial lumps and bumps of the chest wall, diaphragmatic motion, the thymus and pleural effusions, and it can play a valuable secondary role in evaluation of mediastinal masses and pulmonary parenchymal disease.

Safety of cardiac magnetic resonance and contrast angiography for neonates and small infants: a 10-year single-institution experience.
With increasing applications of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) for evaluation of congenital heart disease (CHD), safety of this technology in the very young is of particular interest. ⋯ CMR and MRA can be accomplished safely in neonates and infants ≤120 days old for a wide range of pre-surgical cardiac indications. Adverse events were unrelated to patient age, complexity of heart disease, type of anesthesia or PGE1 dependence.
