Radiation dose evaluation in head and neck MDCT examinations with a 6-year-old child anthropomorphic phantom.
CT examinations of the head and neck are the most commonly performed CT studies in children, raising concern about radiation dose and their risks to children. ⋯ The results of this study would encourage revision of MDCT protocols in pediatric head and neck CT examinations for dose reduction and protocol standardization.

Case ReportsGliomatosis peritonei of the scrotal sac associated with an immature gastric teratoma.
A male infant presented with bilateral scrotal masses 7 months after removal of an immature gastric teratoma. After surgical excision, histology showed gliomatosis peritonei. We report an unusual presentation of gliomatosis peritonei arising from a rare lesion of immature gastric teratoma.

ESPR uroradiology task force and ESUR paediatric working group: imaging and procedural recommendations in paediatric uroradiology, part III. Minutes of the ESPR uroradiology task force minisymposium on intravenous urography, uro-CT and MR-urography in childhood.
The ESPR working groups have addressed intravenous urography (IVU), uro-CT and MR-urography (MRU) in childhood as the last in the series of recommendations for paediatric uroradiology. The aim of this process was again to standardise paediatric uroradiologic imaging and to reduce invasiveness and radiation dose. ⋯ The proposals were discussed within the group and with non-member experts and colleagues from other partner disciplines. These recommendations aim to serve as a quality measure in order to standardise the procedures and thus grant comparable good quality results throughout different institutions.

ReviewPost-operative cardiac lesions after cardiac surgery in childhood.
A new population of patients in cardiology has been growing steadily so that the number of grown-ups with congenital heart disease (GUCH) is almost equal to those under paediatric care. The dramatic improvement in survival should lead to a larger number of GUCH patients than children with CHD in the new millennium. ⋯ Cardiovascular CT and MRI are often complementary in providing comprehensive complex anatomical evaluation, haemodynamic assessment of residual postoperative lesions and complications of surgery. A thorough understanding of postsurgical corrections is a prerequisite for choosing the optimal imaging techniques and achieving an accurate evaluation.

ReviewNew MR sequences (diffusion, perfusion, spectroscopy) in brain tumours.
While MRI has been instrumental in significantly improving care in children harbouring brain tumours, conventional sequences lack information regarding functional parameters including cellularity, haemodynamics and metabolism. Advanced MR imaging modalities, such as diffusion (including diffusion tensor imaging and fibre tractography), perfusion and spectroscopy have significantly improved our understanding of the physiopathology of brain tumours and have provided invaluable additional information for treatment planning and monitoring of treatment results. The contribution of these methods to the characterization of brain neoplasms in children is the focus of the present manuscript.
