Comparative StudyMRI in the management of scaphoid fractures in skeletally immature patients.
The scaphoid is the commonest fractured carpal bone, but excluding a scaphoid fracture with plain radiographs is difficult. Other imaging modalities are being increasingly evaluated in the management of scaphoid injuries. MRI has been shown to be of considerable value in the adult population but there have been limited studies of its use in children. ⋯ MRI of acute scaphoid injuries in children significantly alters management. Those children with normal scans are discharged earlier. Scaphoid fractures are confirmed earlier and other pathological conditions are also detected.

Comparative StudyPediatric radiologists: who we are and what we do. Results of a membership survey of the Society for Pediatric Radiology--1999.
There is a need for reliable monitoring of workforce trends in the field of pediatric radiology by the Society for Pediatric Radiology. In addition, the Society should periodically assess itself as to its mission and relevance to its members via membership surveys. ⋯ Pediatric radiologists are a diverse membership with the common goal of advocating for healthcare and imaging in children. Survey information given to the leadership of the Society will help the organization remain responsive to its members.

Case Reports Comparative StudyThe impact of imaging in the management of intussusception owing to pathologic lead points in children. A review of 43 cases.
To review the imaging appearances, management and outcome of a large number of children with intussusception owing to pathologic lead points (PLP) in an attempt to define the role of various imaging modalities in this clinical setting. ⋯ Sonography depicted two-thirds of PLP and provided a specific diagnosis in nearly one-third of our series. Our review does not provide sufficient data on how to continue the investigation of those patients in whom sonography does not depict a PLP but in whom there is a high index of suspicion for its presence. It remains a diagnostic challenge as to how to search for PLP in these patients, and other imaging modalities have to be requested according to each particular case.

Comparative StudyCT-guided radiolabelled aerosol studies for assessing pulmonary impairment in children with bronchiectasis.
To determine whether CT-guided mucociliary clearance studies allow differentiation between bronchiectasis associated with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) and those unrelated to congenital or genetically transmitted defects. ⋯ The combination of morphological CT information with functional data concerning the clearance of radiolabelled aerosol adds to our understanding of pulmonary impairment in children with bronchiectasis. In particular, regional studies allow the recognition of different mucociliary clearance patterns in bronchiectasis associated with PCD and those unrelated to congenital or genetically transmitted defects.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialSonographic guidance of air enema for intussusception reduction in children.
Fluoroscopically guided air reduction of intussusception is a well-accepted technique. There are only two previous reports in which US has been used to monitor pneumatic reduction. ⋯ Air enema guided by US is a practical and reliable technique for the reduction of intussusception.
