[Interventional pain therapy : Results of a survey among specialized pain physicians in Germany.]
Interventional pain therapy aims to treat pain which is refractory to pharmacologic and noninterventional treatment. Due to the partly lacking evidence and recommendations it remains unclear when interventional methods should be applied within the treatment pathway. This study assesses the current state of interventional methods in Germany and their leading indications comparing with the recommendations found in the literature. ⋯ Although there is no clear evidence on interventional procedures in the current literature, these methods are often performed by the respondents. Anatomic landmarks are most frequently used for orientation. The German pain physicians who responded consider especially neuropathic pain as an indication to perform interventional procedures for pain therapy.

[Metamizole (dipyrone): mode of action, drug-drug interactions, and risk of agranulocytosis.]
Metamizole (dipyrone) is a nonsteroidal compound with strong analgesic as well as antipyretic and spasmolytic properties. Based on a small number of cases of agranulocytosis, metamizole was withdrawn from the market in some countries. Other countries restricted its use. This paper discusses the safety aspects of metamizole and compares it with other compounds used for similar indications.

Case Reports
[Treatment of myofascial lumbar dorsal pain : Effective clinical diagnostics and therapy].
Lumbar dorsal pain is a problem that must be taken seriously and is part of many people's everyday lives. Not only does it cause high costs for the health system, it also frequently leads to inability to work. The significance of the myofascial system is still not taken seriously enough in therapy and clinical diagnostics, when treating dorsal pain. In the following article, the effectiveness of specifically targeted therapy for myofascial pain is evaluated. ⋯ The results indicate that targeted treatment of muscles and fascia in patients with chronic back pain can lead to a reduction of pain symptoms. The consideration of the myofascial systems, particularly in relation to nonspecific back pain, could contribute to improving the treatment of pain and contribute to lowering costs.

[Symptom control and place of death in palliative cancer patients in primary care : Results of the controlled PAMINO evaluation study.]
The care of patients at the end of life focuses on preservation of the quality of life, symptom control and fulfillment of the preferred place of death. Only few care and outcome-related data for primary palliative care in Germany are available; therefore, the objective was to examine the quality of life, symptom control and place of death of patients with palliative treatment by general practitioners (GP). ⋯ Stable emotional functioning, good symptom control in cancer patients at the end of life and the high rate of dying at home as preferred suggest that GPs with specific training can ensure high-quality general palliative care.

Physical, sexual and emotional abuse in childhood and adolescence is considered to play a role in the etiology and generalization of chronic pain in adulthood. However, it remains unclear whether abuse is specifically associated with different dimensions of nonspecific chronic low back pain (CLBP) and if these associations are mediated by psychological symptoms. ⋯ The influence of childhood abuse on CLBP is different for specific pain dimensions; therefore, CLBP should be faced as a complex construct that comprises different dimensions. Childhood abuse is suggested as a risk factor for spreading pain in CLBP persons; therefore, CLBP patients reporting additional pain locations might benefit from diagnostic and therapeutic interventions specific for childhood abuse experiences.
