There are many ways to treat aseptic non-union of femoral shaft fractures with reported varied success rate. Amongst all these, Exchange nailing is the simplest and most successful technique for treating aseptic non union of femoral shaft fractures. We have carried out a prospective study in the Department of Trauma & Orthopaedics, Ayub Medical College Abbottabad to analyse the role of exchange nailing for aseptic non union of femoral shaft fractures. ⋯ Exchange nailing is a simple technique for treating aseptic non union of femoral shaft fractures. Based on the results of our study, we recommend it as the procedure of choice for non comminuted, aseptic non union of femoral shaft fracture.

Puerperal sepsis is one of the leading causes of preventable maternal morbidity and mortality. It is still ranked as 3rd major cause of maternal deaths in our country. The objective of this study was to evaluate morbidity and mortality from puerperal sepsis and to identify its risk factors. ⋯ Puerperal sepsis is an important public health problem contributing to maternal morbidity and mortality. Majority of predisposing factors are preventable. Optimal antiseptic measures and careful monitoring are needed throughout the process of labour.

Fast tracking in adult cardiac surgery at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.
Early extubation after cardiac operation is an important aspect of fast-track cardiac anaesthesia. The length of stay in ICU limits utilisation of operation theatre in cardiac surgery. Increasing cost, limited resources, and newer surgical strategies have stimulated effectiveness of all routines in cardiac surgery, anaesthesia, and intensive care. Aim of this study was to determine the feasibility of fast-tracking in adult cardiac surgery and its effects on post operative recovery in our setup. ⋯ Fast-tracking with extubation within 6 hours is feasible approach which minimises the post-operative complications significantly in adult cardiac surgical patients.

Comparative StudyUltrasound guided fine needle aspiration cytology versus core biopsy in the preoperative assessment of non-palpable breast lesions.
Breast screening is a method of detecting breast cancer at a very early stage. Most of the lesions detected by screening are not malignant. Objective of this study was to compare ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration cytology and core biopsy in the preoperative assessment of non-palpable breast lesions. ⋯ Fine Needle Aspiration has been found to be an extremely useful method for the diagnosis of lumps of breast. The accuracy and the sensitivity of diagnosis on fine needle aspiration cytology were high.

Management of thoracolumbar spine injuries at a tertiary care hospital.
The purpose of descriptive case series study was to see the conservative and surgical outcome in respect of neurological improvement, sphincter functions and early ambulation in cases of traumatic thoracolumbar injuries in a tertiary care hospital. ⋯ Thoracolumbar injuries occur in young population and creates socio-economic burden to the society. Patients with partial neurological deficit benefit from surgery.
