The aim of this study was to investigate the seasonal variation of the ratio of hemorrhagic stroke to ischemic stroke. The working hypothesis is that the ratio may vary among seasons. ⋯ Seasonal variations differed among stroke subtypes. The OR for CH/CeI and for SAH/CeI was lower in summer and higher in the rest of seasons independent of age, gender, and risk factors.

Lacosamide is indicated for the adjunctive treatment of partial-onset seizures in adult patients. Unlike other sodium channel-blocking antiepileptic drugs, lacosamide selectively enhances sodium channel slow inactivation. Potential effects of lacosamide on cardiac sodium channels and their cardiovascular consequences were comprehensively assessed. This manuscript presents the non-clinical cardiac safety profile of lacosamide. ⋯ ECG findings in anesthetized animals correlate well with in vitro sodium channel-related effects and are also consistent with those (PR prolongation, first-degree atrioventricular block) reported in healthy volunteers and patients with epilepsy. Both in vivo and in vitro effects were detected from exposure levels 1.5- to 2-fold above those achieved with the maximum-recommended human lacosamide dose (400 mg/day).

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyGreater occipital nerve blockade for the treatment of chronic migraine: a randomized, multicenter, double-blind, and placebo-controlled study.
We aimed to assess the efficacy of greater occipital nerve (GON) blockade at chronic migraine (CM) treatment. ⋯ Our results suggest that GON blockade with bupivacaine was superior to placebo and was found to be effective, safe, and cost-effective for the treatment of CM. According to our knowledge, this is the first randomized, multicentre, double-blind, and placebo-controlled study in the literature in this field of work.

The aim of the study was to clarify the hazard ratio for death within 30 days after stroke comparing women to men. ⋯ We evaluated HR for death comparing men to women in stroke and in each stroke subtype. Women with CH had lower HR for death within 30 days after stroke than men.

This study aims to determine the general frequency, mortality, and risk factors of super-refractory status epilepticus (SRSE) versus non-refractory status epilepticus (NRSE) and refractory status epilepticus (RSE). ⋯ This study was the first to use the statistical percentage of SRSE. Approximately 12.2% of SE cases will result in SRSE, which is a challenging medical situation for doctors. Patients with first episodes and acute encephalitis were also prone to develop SRSE.
