Obstructive sleep apnea in children with epilepsy: prospective pilot trial.
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is prevalent in adults with epilepsy, especially refractory, but limited data exist in children with epilepsy. ⋯ OSA is more prevalent in refractory epilepsy and in children who are on multiple AEDs. While further studies are needed to confirm these findings and to assess the consequences of OSA, we believe it is important to screen the children with epilepsy for OSA.

Personality traits and psychological distress in persons with chronic tension-type headache. The Akershus study of chronic headache.
To explore the relationship between chronic tension-type headache (CTTH) and psychological factors (personality traits and psychological distress) in a population-based sample and to determine the influence of headache frequency and medication days. ⋯ Persons with CTTH have a high level of neuroticism and psychological distress. This can be either a primary or a secondary effect related to the premorbid psyche or caused by the chronic pain and is a question that future studies should address.

Clinical TrialIntraventricular thrombolysis with rt-PA in patients with intraventricular hemorrhage.
To evaluate safety, clinical feasibility, and outcome of intraventricular (IVen) administration of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) in patients with intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH). ⋯ IVen administration of rt-PA seems to be safe in cases of IVH. This pilot study shows that it may be associated with better outcomes. Further studies and clinical randomized trials are needed to establish indications and IVen administration protocols.

Time delay between symptom and surgery in patients with carotid artery stenosis.
Many severe strokes are preceded by warning signs such as a transient ischemic attack or stroke with minor deficits. Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) of a symptomatic carotid artery stenosis can prevent future strokes, but should be performed within 2 weeks after the initial symptom to maximize the benefit. The aim of this study was to determine the time delays between symptom and CEA. ⋯ The time between symptom and surgery is often longer than desirable. There are several measures to improve the chain of procedures for patients with carotid artery stenosis. These may include omitting the formal carotid conference for uncomplicated cases and minimizing waiting time for surgery.

Comparative StudyMedication dose reductions after pallidal versus subthalamic stimulation in patients with Parkinson's disease.
To compare the medication dose reduction between deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the globus pallidus interna (GPi) vs subthalamic nucleus (STN) in matched patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). ⋯ We conclude that in disease-matched patients with PD undergoing DBS, both GPi and STN may result in similar reduction in PD medication doses.
