Zinc protoporphyrin, a useful parameter to address hyperferritinemia.

Zinc protoporphyrin (ZPP) is produced instead of heme as soon as iron support to erythropoiesis becomes insufficient. In iron deficiency the intra-erythrocytic ZPP concentration is increased.
