Case ReportsPulmonary artery pseudoaneurysm after Swan-Ganz catheter placement: embolization with vascular plugs.
Three patients who presented with massive hemoptysis after the insertion of a Swan-Ganz catheter for cardiac surgery are reported. Pulmonary artery pseudoaneurysms were diagnosed and successfully treated by embolization with a vascular plug. Follow-up at 15 months showed no recurrence of hemoptysis, and computed tomography helped confirm complete occlusion of the pseudoaneurysms.

In vitro assessment of needle artifacts with an interactive three-dimensional MR fluoroscopy system.
To perform in vitro assessment of needle artifacts with an interactive three-dimensional (3D) near-real-time magnetic resonance (MR) fluoroscopy system for musculoskeletal interventions in a 1.5-T open-bore magnet. ⋯ Because of its robustness in depicting needle artifacts, the interactive 3D MR fluoroscopy system appears to be suitable for MR-guided interventions. The titanium needle showed optimal artifacts with all combinations of measurement parameters. Artifacts with the other needles were too large (Inconel) or too small (carbon fiber).

Case ReportsThe use of the internal thoracic vein for percutaneous central venous access in an infant.
Central venous access can be challenging in children with thrombosed central veins, particularly those who are dependent on parenteral nutrition. The present report describes a 2-year-old child with short bowel syndrome and chronically thrombosed jugular, subclavian, and femoral veins in whom a tunneled central venous catheter was successfully placed percutaneously via the internal thoracic vein.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyShort-term infection in cuffed versus noncuffed small bore central catheters: a randomized trial.
To determine if a polyester cuff offered benefit in jugular small-bore central catheters (SBCCs). ⋯ A polyester cuff on a SBCC confers no significant benefit in short-term colonization rates. Infection in SBCCs is uncommon. Despite their small diameters, SBCCs can result in jugular thrombosis, an important consideration in any patient requiring long-term venous access.

Large-bore tunneled central venous catheter insertion in patients with coagulopathy.
To evaluate the safety of tunneled central venous catheter (TCVC) insertion in patients with an International Normalized Ratio (INR) of greater than or equal to 1.5 or a platelet count lower than 50,000/dL. ⋯ Placement of TCVCs in patients with a platelet count between 25,000/dL and 50,000/dL and/or an INR between 1.5 and 2 is safe even without coagulation product transfusions.
