Comparative StudyUltrahigh-pressure versus high-pressure angioplasty for treatment of venous anastomotic stenosis in hemodialysis grafts: is there a difference in patency?
Ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) balloon catheters were compared with high-pressure (HP) balloon catheters to determine if there was a difference in patency after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) of venous anastomotic stenoses. ⋯ Routine use of UHP for PTA of venous anastomotic stenoses in synthetic hemodialysis grafts was not associated with any significant change in patency compared with routine HP balloon angioplasty.

Treatment of vertebral tumor with posterior wall defect using image-guided radiofrequency ablation combined with vertebroplasty: preliminary results in 12 patients.
To evaluate the safety and clinical benefit of vertebral tumor treatment by combined radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and vertebroplasty, for pain reduction in patients who are unable to benefit from noninvasive treatment methods. ⋯ RFA in combination with vertebroplasty for treating vertebral tumors with posterior wall defect appeared safe, and reduced pain substantially in patients who did not benefit from other noninvasive treatment methods.

Case ReportsPercutaneous osteoplasty with use of a cement-filled catheter for a pathologic fracture of the humerus.
Percutaneous osteoplasty has been used for pathologic fractures of long bones as an adjunct to orthopedic surgery. The present report describes a case of percutaneous osteoplasty with a cement-filled catheter and cement augmentation as the principal therapy to unite a painful pathologic fracture of the humerus. After the procedure, the patient experienced immediate pain relief and improved limb mobility. Percutaneous osteoplasty with this method holds promise as a treatment for pathologic fractures of the humerus that are not amenable to surgical repair.

Awareness of interventional radiology among patients referred to the interventional radiology department: a survey of patients in a large Canadian community hospital.
To quantify the level of knowledge about interventional radiology (IR) among patients referred for an IR procedure and to develop recommendations on how to increase public awareness of IR. ⋯ These data quantify and strongly support the views that (1) even among patients specifically referred to IR for a procedure, the majority of people are unaware of what the field is or may offer; and (2) most patients were satisfied with their IR experience. Six results-based recommendations are made to increase public awareness about IR.

Comparative StudyClinical comparison of two optional vena cava filters.
To compare the clinical safety and efficiency of two optional inferior vena cava (IVC) filters. ⋯ Both optional IVC filters are safe and seem to prevent symptomatic PE. On the basis of the fluoroscopy times, the OptEase filters appear to be more operator-friendly. Late filter-associated complications are rare with these filter designs.
