Osteosclerosis (OMIM: 144750) is a type of autosomal dominant bone disease caused by a mutation in the low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 5 (LRP5) gene. The case of a Chinese family with two affected individuals is reported in the present study in order to investigate the clinical characteristics and virulence genes of this sclerosing bone disorder. ⋯ The A242T mutation in the LRP5 gene resulted in a high bone mass phenotype with an elongated mandible and torus palatinus in this osteosclerotic family.

Drug-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura successfully treated with recombinant human soluble thrombomodulin.
A 61-year-old woman with recurrent non-small cell lung cancer presented with thrombocytopenia, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, neurological abnormalities, renal failure and a fever that appeared during chemotherapy with gemcitabine and bevacizumab. She was diagnosed with drug-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP). ⋯ However, after three months, the hypertension was controllable without anti-hypertensive drugs. Twelve months later, the ninth course of vinorelbine was administered safely, preventing the patient's lung cancer from progressing.

A 78-year-old man presented with urinary retention and difficulty walking. Both legs showed muscle weakness, and he was experiencing lower body hypoesthesia. T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging revealed lesions with high signal intensity and enhancement in the spinal cord and cerebrum. ⋯ Chest computed tomography revealed a tumor measuring 40 mm in diameter, and a lung biopsy revealed the presence of squamous cell carcinoma. We diagnosed the patient with paraneoplastic neurological syndrome related to lung cancer. The patient was treated with steroid pulse therapy and chemotherapy, which relieved the symptoms and enabled the patient to achieve an independent gait.

To examine risk factors for coronary artery disease (CAD) and retinopathy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and assess the relationship between CAD and retinopathy. ⋯ Since it is difficult to distinguish macrovascular and microvascular diseases, diabetic vascular disorders require comprehensive approaches to assessment and treatment.

We herein present three consecutive cases of nummular headache treated with Neurotropin (NTP). Case 1: A 71-year-old man developed a headache in a circumscribed area of the left parietal region. Treatment with NTP resolved the pain after three months. ⋯ Case 3: A 39-year-old man developed bifocal pain the left temporal region. Treatment with NTP resolved the pain after five days. The present results suggest that NTP may be effective for treating patients with nummular headaches.
