ReviewNon-alcoholic fatty liver disease - a procoagulant condition?
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is associated with a number of extrahepatic comorbidities and considerable cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, which is possibly related to coagulation changes associated with metabolic syndrome. Coagulation disorders are common in patients with liver disease of any etiology, and here we review possible alterations in coagulation cascade specific to NAFLD. We discuss derangements in the coagulation cascade and fibrinolysis, endothelial dysfunction, and platelet abnormalities as possible culprits for altered coagulation and explore the significance of these changes for potential treatment targets.

ReviewLiver transplantation in patients with neuroendocrine tumors: a case series and literature review.
Neuroendocrine tumors (NET) are a rare and heterogeneous group of neoplasms with variable biological behavior. They frequently metastasize to the liver, requiring active, multimodality treatment. Surgical resection, possible in only a minority of cases, was until recently the only potentially curative option. ⋯ The main poor prognostic factors in our patients were high grade NET and primary tumor in the pancreas. Inconsistent liver transplantation outcome parameters make it difficult to standardize patient selection criteria. There is a need for further studies that would fully elucidate the curative potential of LT in patients diagnosed with NET.

Which factors influence liver stiffness measured by real-time two dimensional shear wave elastography in patients on maintenance hemodialysis?
To evaluate liver stiffness (LS) by real-time two-dimensional shear wave elastography (RT 2D-SWE) and to assess its correlation with the mean arterial pressure (MAP) in patients on maintenance hemodialysis (MHD). The secondary aim was to identify biological and biochemical parameters associated with elevated LS. ⋯ Mean arterial pressure is correlated with increased LS in patients on MHD. Our results emphasize the importance of proper regulation of arterial blood pressure and indicate that LS should always be interpreted in combination with laboratory parameters. Further prospective studies with larger series are needed.

Distribution of human papillomavirus genotypes in women with high-grade cervical intraepithelial lesions and cervical carcinoma and analysis of human papillomavirus-16 genomic variants.
To analyze the distribution of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) genotypes and the diversity of HPV-16 genomic variants in Croatian women with high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) and cervical carcinoma. ⋯ HPV-16, mainly belonging to the European branch, was the most frequent HPV genotype in women from Croatia with histologically confirmed HSIL and cervical cancer.

Salivary cortisol response to psychosocial stress in patients with first-episode psychosis.
To analyze the difference in the salivary cortisol response to psychosocial stress between the patients with the first episode of psychosis (FEP) and the control group. ⋯ Patients with FEP respond differently to stressful stimuli than controls, as shown by the increased baseline salivary cortisol and blunted cortisol response, possibly indicating a greater vulnerability to psychosocial stress.
